Yep, they aren't that expensive. Depending on brand maybe $20 (about 12pounds), no more than $30 though. They usually come in packs of 3 since you want to spread them around your house.
There's no side effects as long as you (and any pets) are out of the house when you do it.

Def use a bug bomb, those things work WONDERS. But be prepared to find a ton of them all lying around dead in your house...hahah. Make sure you take all pets out of the house though while you do it. Leave them in a neighbors house for the day so the fumes dont kill them.

get a flyswatter with a handle that's particularly lengthy so you can be as far away as possible when crushing their carapaces.
