    skyrim. is it worth playing?

i recently saw skyrim at a really cheap price and i was wondering if its worth playing if u havent played the other elder scrolls games.
i'v heard that its the best game ever and all but i'm not sure if i'm gonna get the game if i havent played the early games.

is the game similar to fallout3? or fable? is there any mmorpg that resembles skyrim?

Definitely worth playing if you like RPGs and/or open-world games. It's combat is a bit lacking compared to other current games but is a huge step up from past elder scrolls games. But combat never was a huge part of the series. Exploration, lore, ect are the focal points. If you're looking for an open end experience you can't go wrong with Skyrim. If you're looking for a visceral, combat focused RPG you're better off with something like The Witcher 2, though Skyrim is still a fairly good option.

I never played any of the prior Elder Scrolls games. Although I knew they were good through friends and reviews they never appealed to me.

I started out with Skyrim and was completely blown away. Fable has nothing on it.
The story is independent of the other Elder Scrolls so you wont get lost in the story. The amount of side quests and things to do in the game will keep you busy for DAYS. Theres the main story missions and a crapton of side quests and the game encourages exploration. I spent nearly 40 hours after hitting the second town just going around exploring caves and settlements and not doing side quests or anything and I was loving every second of it. The open world enviroment is nice as well. NPCs do stuff with or without your influence so its always a persistent world.

I would 110% recommend it, ESPECIALLY if its your first Elder Scrolls game (Like it was mine)

Honestly I think you may enjoy the game even more if you haven't played the earlier elder scroll games. Some of the story elements feel kinda tired as a long time fan of the series, while for a new player they're thoroughly entertaining.

You won't be lost with the story because it's pretty much stand alone. I supect there are a few tributes to the earlier elder scrolls games (I only played oblivion prior to Skyrim) but they don't play a large part.

Personally, I love the game. It has a load of content, with an interesting main story line. Although, you don't even have to focus on the main story line; You're more than able to just focus on the side quests and still have a lot to do. As wtfPanzerkin said the combat isn't amazing (although not terrible by any means) the main selling points for me is the landscape, the dungeons, the lore, etc.

As to whether you should get it? That's more difficult to answer, if you're looking for a strong story based game, with a lot of exploration and places to discover, you'll most likely enjoy skyrim.

if you can get it for cheap then definitely. the game is easy to get into and alot of fun. the main quest is pretty short but there are so many interesting side quests its hard to care too much about that.

I had never played the other Elder Scrolls games before Skyrim. After Skyrim, I played the other games, because I loved Skyrim so much. It gets tiring after a while, but that doesn't change the fact it's a very enjoyable game.

if you played fallout 3, you will love skyrim

It's a first person (Third person Shoulder) Role Playing Game. You swing swords, throw fireballs, plunge arrows deep into someones skull, and slay dragons. Oh, and you level up with their perk system which conveniently has a stat boost every time you gain one level, and a few points to put into the area you love to use. Such as blacksmith for professions, and two-handed for two-handed combat. It's a polished Oblivion, and is very fun if you enjoy First person hack 'n slash with magic throwing capability.

The mods on the PC help as well for the longevity of the games life, the long level climb, the great and diverse story, plus the graphics are very appealing too! I say pick it up, especially for reduced price.

Highly recommended. I bought it and started it on day one, and have probably completed it in its entirety about 30-40 times. That's not including all the custom content I've since downloaded; new quests, new areas, new mobs, all that stuff. The best thing about Bethesda games is not that they're made by Bethesda, but that they allow modding, and the modding community for their games is amazing...they produce content that far surpasses anything Bethesda's ever released.

It's a bit overrated actually. The game has plenty of inexcusable flaws that shouldn't be there with Bethesda's funding, experience and development time (magic system anyone?).

Thankfully, you can amend most of those with mods, so yeah it's a good game, worth it for sure.

only if you have plenty of time.

    speaking from experience O.O

Yes, play it. Unlike the other Elder Scrolls, I've found a lot less replay value in Skyrim, but DAMN it's a good game, and it's BEAUTIFUL. Give it a blast. If you like RPGs it would be a crime not to experience Skyrim at least once.

Is it as unbelievably boring and faceless as Morrowind was? I bought that back when it was released and it turned out to be the most pointless, unfocused, un-appealing, unexciting game ever. Guess that's what people call "open-world". Is Skyrim more coherent or is it the same "there has to be fun SOMEWHERE in this game, I just have to turn every stone in the universe to find it"?

Buy it, but only on PC. Mods can make a huge improvement.

The only thing I've got against Skyrim is that I thought, after completing a vast majority of the side quests, that the main storyline seemed very short. I didnt touch it at all until I was about lvl 50, and then I completed the remaining 70% of the questline in a matter of hours, which was a bit disappointing.

All round amazing game though, as said, if you like RPG's the slightest, don't miss out on this game.

YES - skyrim is a fantastic game. Will it keep you playing for years and years like WoW? Maybe not, but its very fun, with a crap ton of quests and places to go and things to do.
Lots of exploring and things to kill. Plus mods make it even better.
I think the best part is you can start over and slightly change you skill perks and the game is almost completely different. I have almost 300 hours played, and still only 40% of the achievements and never finished the main questline.

    Is this even a question!?

OF COURSE IT IS WORTH IT!

Skyrim is a fantastic experience in itsel even if you haven't played the earlier games!

Are you high? If you're looking at the PC version, buy it now. If it's a console version, stay far away.

It is not necessary to play the other games to enjoy and have fun with Skyrim. It helps with your understanding of the different races and how characters of certain race interact with you and eachother, but that's nothing a few minutes reading a wiki couldn't change, and even that isn't required.

As some have said, the combat isn't the best, but I enjoyed it. I play these types of games more for the explorable world and the story and quests. Building your talents is pretty good, as there are lots of cool choices.
