Is final fantasy XIV any good?

I know it's been over a year since FFXIV was released and I heard it first it completely sucked but I saw it for a fiver on amazon and bought it and am currently installing it atm. I just want to know what I am getting into, a world of awesome or a world of suck, please give a few reasons aswell .

No. It is one of the worst designed, insulting and cheap MMOs ever developed. They cut corners, created faulty systems, didn't optimize the game for PCs well, released a buggy as hell game w/ little depth. The huge amount of negative press directed at the game and admitted failure by the devs [they published several open letters stating they went wrong] is 100% justified w/r/t FF14.

The game was in all respects, an insult.

The game is nothing like it was at its atrocious release. It isn't where they want it to be yet, but it's still pretty fun. Not for everyone, though. if you are expecting warcraft, you'll get none of that here.

My advice is don't try and be a loner. Get to know the people on your server, because frankly, its the amazing community the game has that is the biggest selling point to me. If you have people to play the game with, it can be one of the best MMOs out there.

Well sort of saving my copy of the game all new and stuff till after my exams so I can absolutely bash it in the free month

They are at least somewhat committed to fixing it, so there is that.

Don't expect much but for £5 it's not a big loss even if you only get a few hours out of it.

It's kinda fun, especially since it only costs about £5 right now. Although, controlling the game with mouse/keyboard still feels not exactly right but I feel like job system should be implemented in more games.

Bought this for $10 at Amazon.com. Currently playing the 30 day free trial right now despite hearing all the negative vibe about it. Granted I haven't played this when it was "bad" during launch.

One thing I can say is that, if you join a linkshell, the enjoyment of the game skyrockets. Easily the best MMO community I've seen in a long time.

This was the great thing about FFXI too, such a nice community.

Surely this game needs to go f2p too, realistically? A lot more people will take a chance on it then. I would check it out at least.

The game has improved a lot since launch and is still improving and the biggest change will be in 2.0 , it will totally change the game
