Not in softcore no. Death = gold repairs only.
In hardcore, your char is gone when you die on any difficulty.

Only if you rolled in hardcore.
Difficulty does not affect lives, Softcore or Hardcore does. This is picked when you create your character.

I think that's only "hardcore" setting - as for how to toggle that, I'm not 100% sure.

After reaching level 10 on "softcore" you can create your first hardcore character, which has 1 life. Doesn't matter where you die, normal, nightmare, hell, inferno, you just got the one life. Originally Posted by hksin11186

You don't toggle hardcore. You choose it when you create a character and it is a permanent choice.

I was talking about the inferno mode, that your char doesn't get deleted when you die on softcore inferno mode

You don't lose your character if you die in Inferno. Inferno is nothing more than an extra difficulty on top of Normal, Nightmare, Hell, and you don't lose your character in those difficulties either. On top of it there have been videos where internal testers are talking about how they are lacking gold due to all the repairs in inferno as the result of all their deaths.
