I like my family's chihuahua. He's definitely not the brightest dog. I didn't pick him out btw, I would prefer a bigger dog, but my mom won't have it. Mainly because she sees how messy my grandparent's house is with their medium-sized dogs, and how noisy they tend to be whenever they see/hear anyone near the house. He's generally nice, just not to small children. :P

Having said all that, I really don't care about other chihuahuas. I don't hate them or like them. I just don't care.

I owned a Chihuahua for well over ten years. I'll be frank, 99% of them are mean little fuckers and will bark OFTEN. I lucked out with mine though, got him from a good breeder and he was *gasp!* friendly. They're a breed that isn't for everyone.

Dumbass owners = poorly behaved dogs.

I don't find them cute at all, the eyes are terrible :s But I don't hate the breed, I hate the owners who don't realize that even if your dog weights 7 pounds, it is still a dog and has to be trained and treated like any other. (Like my father's goddaughter who treats her chihuahuas like dolls and names them after Twilight characters *shudder*)

My dog is a Chihuahua and she breaks the stereotypes. She very rarely barks. In the two years that I've had her, I've heard her bark about 15 times. No joke. She's also really relaxed and mellow.

I don't know if I just got really lucky with my little rescue pup, or if it's a matter of training and how she is treated. I try to take her on walks every day and don't encourage bad behavior, and just generally try to be a good alpha for her and she's happy and mellow.

I don't hate them, but don't like them either. They're ugly and have a sharp annoying bark. Also I always found very small dogs to be odd, if you want a dog you want something slightly less squishy, I'm not saying a saint-bernard or something, but a chihuahua is just... like an ugly toy. Cats rule anyway.

They're way too small, which makes me think of rats, their pelt is mostly rough and very, very short which makes them look even more like a rat; add to that their annoying bark, plus I can't imagine nothing worse than a grown up man walking a chihuahua.

Sure, dogs are allowed to be small, but that's just a tad too much for my taste :|

Probably because it looks like a rat.

imo, they are ugly and annoying. yelp yelp yelp yelp ... ugh ... but looks, for anything, is in the eye of the beholder. Cars are a great example ... some people think their Scion xB are sexy and think lambos are ugly, I'd take a cherry NSX over a new Corvette any day. Personal preference is all it really comes down to.

I don't like dogs in general, my wife loves them. I prefer a dog in between ultra small and medium, she wants a Pomeranian, I suppose that is ok. If I had to have a big dog, I'd probably go with a St. Bernard, but I'd want a fenced in back yard and have them have a 'potty' spot so clean up is quick and easy ... apartment life means no big dogs any time soon.

Dogs of that size tend to be annoying.

Its prolly because of their really annoying bark. But a chihuahua is prolly the only dog I would get ever, just because they're cute as fuck and I really dislike big dogs. (im not really a dog lover fyi)

I don't like SUPER small dogs, but I disagree that smaller than pitbull = bad. I have a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and he is just about the nicest, most mellow, and most courageous dog you could find.

Because they're the stereotypical spoiled dog. They're rather notorious for being babied to the point that they rule the house. They're a breed meant for killing vermin, so they're somewhat aggressive. Plus they're bark is pretty obnoxious.

I know some people hate small dogs, but you just have to get the right ones. For example, I've got a Bieva Terrier, and a Yorky living with me. They almost never bark, they don't shed, they're not aggressive. The only time I don't like them is when I have to walk them, because a 6'4 guy walking two tiny dogs looks ridiculous.

They are annoying little creatures that have an annoying bark and are often aggressive. If they were the size of a labrador they would be put down because of their behaviour, but because they are small they can get away with it.

Rats (that I've kept) were always far from quiet, and I tried lots of different breeds.

Most tiny, as i call them, "boutique" dogs i ever saw are all around annoying, and also pretty dumb. If you consider getting a dog, just go for a german shepherd - they're smart, loyal, and get along very well with family, kids and other pets (even cats: i have a german and a cat who were raised together from practically age 0), if raised properly of course.

They're smaller than cats. If you don't want a larger pet why don't you just get a cat?
