    Curious of Rifts population numbers

Is there anywhere you can find a number of how many active subs Rift has right now? I'm kind of curious about it since I haven't really hard much of it for a pretty long time now. I was wondering if it found a spot and plateaued or if it has been steadily increasing/deceasing. I played the game at launch but wasn't really able to get that into it.

Nope, Trion is non-public company and most numbers are speculation be it high or low. They have 32 servers and weren't afraid to merge and transfer when the shinny wore off. The game seems to have a decent core of dedicated players and there is never a shortage of people in the open worlds.

Don't forget the Korean and Russian servers!
It doesn't matter how many subs the game has, if you enjoy it, play it!

Do we actually know how many Korean and Russian servers there are?

In my experience the game has, excluding the month or two after release, become steadily more active.
It took a slight downturn over Xmas/Swtor and has been a little quieter since Diablo 3 came out, but that was mostly people reallocating their time temporarily rather than dropping sub. I've seen a lot of players come back from SWTOR over the last few months.

My guess is that subs have probably plateaued but with the first 20 levels free to play now, the number of people playing has gone up.

After seeing how much has changed with the game since I left, I might end up giving it another shot if/when <MMO Name omitted to prevent flaming> doesn't keep my interest like I hoped it would, so it's nice to hear that the population is still pretty high up there.

I've got a list of upcoming games I wanna try, but I may find myself back in Rift with ya. The game isn't perfect, but almost constant updates with close to no downtime... those guys kick ass. And most importantly it's fun.

There are estimates that they have roughly 750,000 subscribers, but that was pre-patch 1.8 and pre-D3... I assume they've lost some since then. I'd put it around 500k.

Honestly for any non-WoW MMO, I'd say these numbers are excellent.

And the only reason they lost my sub was because of money and time constraints with college. I want to resub so badly, I will do everything I can to have the money to get this expansion that is coming out.

Well it was rather obvious Trion panicked when the game launched. The launch was rather smooth, perhaps the smoothest of any major MMO to date. Yet Trion got way more people than expected for a small company and thus opened WAY TOO MANY servers early on when demand was super high.

Trion got themselves in a mess with the amount of servers they released, frankly. I remember in one day they opened liked 12 new servers from that morning alone. Too damn much.

So on the one hand it's awesome Trion were willing to pull the plug on dead/low pop servers. On the other, they kinda just bungled it early on. Sorted admitted it to the community.

Pretty sure the release of D3 didn't lose Rift one third of its subscribers...

Well I will for sure resub to try conquest out, and depending on how it turns out it will decide wether I stay or not. If they dont fix 3 factions actually being 3 balanced factions I dont think it will be good enough, but if they fix it then it might just turn epic. So either I resub and stay subbed or resub and then take another break and wait and see what their plans for pvp in the x-pac will be. Rift is a fun game, but they have been struggling with making end game pvp work well enough to keep its pvp-players.

I wish Trion would actually show sub numbers, regardless if there a smaller company or not. You gotta show something to investors. The game isnt dead like it was last year around this time, its gotta better, but the question is how much better.

I'm sure they show sub numbers to serious private investors. So unless you have several million dollars to throw at them for the info....

I still think it should be a mandatory thing for all sub based MMOs to show sub numbers.

Heh non-public companies don't have tell the likes of us anything. As Primalthirst says toss out a few million and they'll let you have a look through their books. I see by your location on your Avatar that your from Ontario Canada as well as am I so you should be very familiar with one of their investors I've linked below.

It's definitely under 1 mil subs, but sub numbers really are relative to have how shards (servers) are running and how active people are. Trion keep tabs on shard populations constantly, merging servers if needed. I don't know if they've had to do it recently (in the last months, I don't think so), but when I played actively in March and April this year I played on Icewatch PvE and Sanctum was always full of people (except at like 4am in the morning) and when Rift events occured more than enough people turned up to help. LFD times are quite long if you're not a tank... or well, just as long as WoW I guess, as a comparison. But either way, if you're looking for population, the shards are fine, I definitely wouldn't worry about it.

Plain and simple, the numbers don't matter if you enjoy the game. The community is alive and well and appears to have a more mature base.
I don't think you will be disappointed with it.

As far as i am playing this game and enjoying it, i dont really care about its numbers. But on the other hand my Shard is decently populated which means i dont have problems at all finding groups for quests or Massive Invasions ( Icewatch EU PVE)
