How do loot tables work?

I see a lot of guides for farming inferno that basically are, get 5NV buff then kill boss.

Its all well and good, I am at the point now where i can solo 5 stacks and Belial on my barb in about 30-45 mins. But my friend keeps telling me elite packs have better loot, so why bother with belial?

Also i thought I read something about gear above lvl 60, like 61-62, how does that work? and how do you check?

do bosses have a chance to drop gear from the next act? or do they simply just drop a bit more loot?

bosses can drop some of the best gear. The levels you speak of are Item Levels, or iLvl's. They are a hidden lvl of the loot that says it can have better stats then one of a lower lvl. The ilvl's will be added to the tooltips in a later patch.

Farming only elites is not good farming. U want to farm elites, but also at the end kill the boss. Do not just leave the boss because elites can drop better loot, that is a waste of your buff/time.
