They only bring out what you believe they will. Penn and Teller did a wonderful and scathing look at the Ouija board in an episode of Bullshit. It's smoke and mirrors, just like any other form of "magic."

    Illusions.

    There is no magic.

I don't want to burst the fun of Ouija boards, but I don't think there's anything actually magical or mysterious about them. If these Ouija boards were anything more than just smoke and mirrors, we'd probably have scientists stuyding them and trying to find out why they do what they do. I'm sure they're great fun at parties, but as Grokan said people like Penn and Teller have exposed why they work in the way they do.

My experience of ouija boards is as follows:

Me and 3 friends at a party found a board and decided to try it out. We sat it up and placed our hand on the brick thingy.
I soon realized that this board possessed some form of supernatural power as it had magically forced me to let go off my beer and leave a room full of pretty girls. Anyways, this is how it turned out-

I called BS on this stupid activity and let go of the brick to once again grab my beer, the obvious change in weight on the brick caused my friends to overestimate the force required to drag the brick from one letter to another so the brick slide to the guy who pulled the most and i deemed him the winner. I went back to the party and had a great time! End of story.

Ouija boards are essentially forms of automatic writing. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideomotor_effect

They're fun to use, but I've never really looked at them beyond the scientific explanation of how they work.

Ouija boards are sold in the games section in toy stores. Need I say more?

Flame away but I personally will not ever use one again. It was supposed to be fun & silly but ended up beyond uncomfortable & felt oppressive & shitty in my apt.

I don't believe there is communication by way of the planchette moving b/c you can't ever prove that nobody is lying about interfering with it, if even moving it unconsciously. I do feel that it's unknown as to what possibilities are out there & what the state of mind you fall into opens you up to. Just as there are theories that there are either 10 or 11 dimensions, who knows what else is unseen, unfelt, unable to be scientifically proven yet still exists? It means nothing that the Ouija Board was introduced in 1890 & eventually trademarked by Hasbro, it is a facsimile of "communication" devices used for centuries. If it can't be controlled & proven safe, then no thank you & good day to you, sir.

I don't think it has anything to do with what you do/don't believe in, yet I think it's an open invitation, maybe telepathically? to bring about whoever/whatever answers the invite.

    Here are a few replies from the last time I saw a thread about Ouija boards, since it was a locked thread I'm unable to make the quotes properly include the poster's name;

Using a Ouija board is like opening a doorway to your house. Eventually, all kinds of strangers would use that open door to enter your home. Some of these strangers would be very nice, amiable and benign, while others....
IMO, & many ghost hunters, psychics, mediums, researchers etc agree, while the board itself isn't necessarily "dangerous" the doors or portals you may open & the type of communication you're attempting could get ugly. There are generally no "good" or "happy" stories related to Ouija use, almost always bad outcomes, people saying they wish they just hadn't even tried it at all.

Why take a chance & invite something $hitty in, you can't control what you're contacting or what wants to contact you for that matter.
best case scenario, it's all superstition and you idiots sit around a piece of cardboard trying to make it make messages.

worst case scenario, it's all real, and you attract some sort of demonic ghost to your house and have to call ghostbusters. they charge a hefty fee for exorcisms nowadays.

At best it's a fun way of finding out how much you and your friends are subject to the ideomotor effect. So if you felt uncomfortable then the answer is you are. Though this is nothing to be ashamed of, the human mind is capable of all kinds hallucinations and subject to placebo effects no matter the persons IQ.

Yes, OP, Hasbro is manufacturing devices that open portals to the eleventh circle of Hell and unleash its demons upon mortal souls foolish enough to tamper with the underverse.

You have nothing to worry about.
    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670k 3.4GHz | RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB DDR3-1866 | GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 4GB (2-Way SLI) | Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45
    Cooling: Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler; 200mm Fans x3; | Case: HAF 922 | PSU: Corsair Pro 750W

80+ FPS in Raids on Ultra. Stay mad.
This setup no longer hits 80+ FPS in raids on Ultra. Stay sad.

Well you could always wonder why the ghost wont move the glass by himself...

Sounds like Hasbro came up with a license to print money, a bit of glossy cardboard and a brick for 20 quid?

If it works or not, i won't be trying it out. if there is in the slightest chance something could happen i don't want to risk it
Maybe in the end i'd be making myself crazy and its all fake, why would i want to do it to myself anyway.

A ouija board has the power to make you switch factions; all of the sudden you go into a trance-like state, when you regain consciousness you're a Blood Elf. A Blood Elf!

  15. #15
Hey, nothing wrong with being a blood elf!

Everytime you walk out of your door you are at risk of being run over by a car yet you don't barricade yourself inside your house for life, do you?

It's a toy people. A TOY! It's made and distributed by a company that makes toys. If they would've received a lot of complaints from parents that their kids started experiencing weird shit due to this toy then they would've stopped making it a long time ago.

Yes and how many times am i ON PURPOSE trying to get ridden over?

There are risks you can't avoid, and then are those you can avoid, like me using an ouija board.

There was a thread about this not to long ago.

    Here's my reply from there

Didn't read all the replies but I just wanted to say that it's bullshit. Me and my friends played this very often and I had them all believing it was real. I would move it EVERY SINGLE TIME and seriously had people throw the boards in the trash or give them away.

The most epic time though was when I had this one girl crying and everyone in the house going wild... as im smiling on the inside but looking scared as shit on the outside, my friends dog starts barking at the fucking wall for no reason... EVERYONE ran out the house... even me... i felt like such a bitch.

There are no risks with the ouija board. At worst you will find out your mind is subject to the ideomotor effect, or that one of your friends will troll the rest of you. Nothing supernatural will come out of it.

Does it matter really? if people are worried something might happend or they make themselves crazy when even nothing is happening at all, and they rather not do it?
