    The Jubilee

Is anyone here celebrating it? Personally, I'm in work all 4 days of this long weekend, not that I'd probably celebrate it regardless. While the Queen is a huge part of Britain I'm just not interested. The only thing that makes me patriotic is rugby and a few beers.

For those of you outside the UK, do you celebrate your monarchy (if you have one)?

Nah. My city apparently cares the least about the Monarchy, with only 3% of people asked saying they were going to celebrate it. None-the-less. I'm not really Anti-Monarchy, I just don't really care.

    Nah. She's not my queen...

once in a life time celebration
Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne for 60 years, this has only happened once before (Queen Victoria).
Yes its something to celebrate, and I will be having a drink in her honor tonight.

Nope, really couldn't care less to be honest. I understand the value of the Queen to the country I just don't have any interest in it.

And having just finished my first year of uni and coming home for the summer the 4 day long weekend doesn't even change anything for me

I wont be celebrating it personally, but im not against anyone that would. It's very much an achievement to be a ruling monach for such a duration, not to mention all the work the royals actually do for charities, youth projects ect, and the money they bring into the UK economy.

If people wish to celebrate and have a good time then go for it, given how miserable the UK is atm it's nice to have something to distract from the killer costs and miserable finances most of us have

Nope and to make it worse the BBC will be covering it to the heavens, not what i pay my TV license for(for those not in the UK the TV license here go's mostly to the BBC)

Much as I oppose royalty, and the fact that their comfortable lives are maintained via my taxes, I do think it's a tad extreme to think of the Queen as some evil, oppressive force in the world. Generally speaking, compared to most parts of the world, British royalty has done a lot of good, considering they could just easily sit on their asses in the lap of luxury and look pomp, pretentious, patriotic and prosperous.

So with that in mind, i'll celebrate the Jubilee on a personal level, insofar as someone who is for all intents and purposes a philanthropist, deserves to be celebrated.

I acknowledge it, respect it, and will probably have a drink in the pub to toast it,

but Im not going out of my way to decorate my place with union jacks or going to make any special efforts for the day tbh I don't really care

Just going to point out that you get more out of the money off their Crown Estates given to the state, than you pay into keeping them up.

Celebrating 60yrs of the best health care tax money will provide, not to mention millions spent on body guards, armoured cars and plenty of huge stately homes to keep her safe...not really a big acheivement is it? Anyone reign that long doing a job that benefits only the tourists. The Queen has never been near my town, nor done anything to benefit it. I'm working during the Jubilee, but not to spite the 'Royals', just to earn a crust and pay the bills. Couldn't care less about this ridicilous pomp and ceremony, especially when money is so tight and people lose their jobs every day.

I'm quite aware they're tourist bait, but I oppose it on principle (in that I don't get a choice as a UK citizen as to whether my taxes maintain the aforementioned royals or not.)

So we get rid of the royal family and then your tax goes up a shitload to cover the deficit from the royal estate and loss of tourism, gg. I used to be of the same view but when you actually look into it the royal family generates a mass of wealth we would struggle to cover otherwise, ontop of that the charity work many members of the royal family do is fantastic.

Also, be realistic, you dont get a say in where your tax goes now

nah i hate the idea of the royal family, not because of the finances just because i think its stupid someone can be born into all that fame and responsibility, i know id hate it. Atleast most celebrities children get some privacy and can do what they want. Its just a stupid old fashioned idea imo and im pretty sure it will end within my lifetime.
