Quick thread just to see who remembers the Sega Genesis (even though it's not that old) and what their favorite game was!
Personally, TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist and Golden Axe 2 were the best memories for me.

Shadowrun, no contest. Though Toejam and Earl was pretty cool too.

The only two (series) I can think of would be Shining Force and Sonic. I skimmed over some lists but those are the two that I remember playing at a friends house (I did not own one).
Oh, Mutant League Football and Joe & Mac.
Herzog Zwei.
No competition.
Best 2-player game of that console generation.
Corsair 500r - i5-3570k@4.8 - H100i - 580 DirectCUII - Crucial M4Lenovo y580 - i7-3630QM - 660M - Crucial M4 mSATA
mazinger Z think that was the name. think it was mazin saga actually
Phantasy Star IV - first rpg I've played.
The Revenge of Shinobi - probably the game i've played the most from begining to end, ever.
Probotector/Contra Hard Corps - pure awesomeness.
The rocket knight adventures
Either that. Jurassic Park, Comic Zone and Vectorman.
Streets of Rage and Sonic series. Streets of Rage 2 and Sonic & Knuckles, mainly... those games were so epic...
NHL 94 and it isn't even remotely close to anything else I had on the Genesis. I played that game for years.
Depending on the day, it's Shining Force II, Phantasy Star IV, Sonic 2, or Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
I know that you are reading this, and I approve.
Streets of Rage
Sonic Series
Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition (Forget what the last one was called)
Megaman (Wily Wars)
Ghoul's and Ghosts
I kinda enjoyed Strider (Besides the god awful voiceacting)
Howay the lads!
Rock and Roll Racing
Super Monaco GP
Toejam & Earl
Streets of Rage series
Road Rash series
Evander Holyfield Real Deal Boxing
Quack Shot
Shadow Dancer
Urban/Jungle/Desert Strike series
When it comes to 16-bit games I largely prefer arcade style, action-based games and the Genesis had that in spades. You can't go wrong with any of Treasure's games like Gunstar Heroes or Alien Soldier. Adventures of Batman & Robin is also an often overlooked, very solid Contra-style action game. The amount of graphical tricks it pulls off without using any external chips makes it one of the most impressive 16-bit games ever from a technical point of view.
If Hyperstone Heist is among your favorites I wonder if you've played the arcade original Turtles in Time or the SNES version. For the most part Hyperstone Heist was a shorter, trimmed down version of Turtles in Time with a few stages thrown in from the previous Turtles arcade game, and it felt kind of half-arsed like a lot of Konami's early Sega titles. Typically people prefer the other versions.
Rocket Knight Adeventures
ToeJam and Earl
Joe Montana Football
Lakers VS Bulls NBA Playoffs
NHL 94
various Sonic games
Streets of Rage
edit: also Shadowrun
