I would go with a 24, unless you plan on playing higher than 1920x1200.

I use a 27" Dell U2711 for all my gaming and I love it.
I progressed from a 22" Asus to a 24" Asus to a 27" LG then to my current Dell. Gotta say at 24" a 1080/1200p monitor is the way to go and they look great.
