[Music] What the hell is it with this song?

What is it with this song?
This is played everywhere, everyone covers it, everyone makes a parody of it.
It's not that special is it?

For those of you who don't want to check the links, it's Carly Rae Jepsen - Call me maybe i'm talking about.
    That's Friday tier music...

Its like every other other song like that. It'll die down just like Friday did.

You know you are out of touch with chart music when I have no idea what that song was originally xD

It's the definition of a meme:

a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes.
It's just how it happens sometimes. Can't really be explained. Some things are just latched on to by society and a huge fuss is kicked up. Harry Potter and Twilight got similar treatment, as well as other songs.

It'll die down eventually. For now, I'd suggest trying not to care so much. Personally I quite like the song, since she can actually sing. She's also not over-sexualised like so many pop idols, so that's a plus.

It is a catchy song with a refrain that gets stuck in your head really easily. Isn't the first, won't be the last.

When terrible pop songs make it big for no particular reason, people tend to throw out parodies of them, just to show how almost any lyrics are just as good as the original lyrics. Most of these types of pop songs are carried by catchy hooks and lots of production being thrown at them. It's the type of rubbish that can make almost anyone a one hit wonder.

Cause it's catchy. And it plays like every 20 minutes on the radio. I hate to admit it, but I have this song to thank for my current g/f. I was at the bar and it turned out to be karaoke night, so I got good and drunk and told my friends to pick a song for me to sing, and they picked this song lol Half way through singing, I was doing so bad that a girl hopped up and helped me finish the song. The rest is history.

It's way better than Friday. I actually like the tune and listen to it whenever it pops on the radio.

No matter how horrible the singing, it's a pop song and usually they're pretty catchy.

What's funny is how behind radio actually is. Anyways, yeah it's another holy shit so many people love it single.

What are you talking about? That song is awesome!

It got big because Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez tweeted about it. People who follow them on Twitter are already into that kind of music, so it exploded in a very big way, and it's practically a dictionary example of the perfect pop song. It gets stuck in your head like gum in hair.

I like it because it's catchy as hell and Carly Rae Jepsen is a pretty decent singer.

Friday was just incomprehensibly bad. It was so bad people started thinking it was good.

I turn it into Little Kuriboh's version as soon as that pops up on the radio, but yeah it's easy to listen to and easily gets stuck in your head

Oh and it's easy to parody too
Your post doesn't deserve a slot in my thread! But it would make the perfect coaster for my drink!

Same. Maybe I just haven't heard it enough to be sick of it yet, but I actually kind of like the song.

This song and Friday aren't even in the same category. Sure it is a pop song and you may not like it, but that doesn't make it bad.
