    European Super Cluster servers

Elrar just posted that they're merging the English speaking servers into 4 mega servers all pooled into a supercluster

This explains why Icewatch has been jammed for the past few days after Patch but only showing Medium pop

    European Server Structure Update

The RIFT platform team has been working hard to improve our servers’ performance we have recently released a change that will drastically increase the maximum capacity of our game servers . That means that our servers will support more players at the same time than before.

This technology change allows us to pool all European servers together. All European players will therefore join the same Dungeons and Warfront queues, as well as participate in the same Conquest battles coming with the 1.9 update. This will result in a noticeable reduction in queuing times and will allow you to jump into the action more quickly.

In order to adapt the current structure with these latest improvements, the new EU-English pool shards will be:

    Argent (PvE RP)
    Blightweald (PvE)
    Bloodiron (PvP)
    Icewatch (PvE)

Riptalon, Sagespire, and Steampike will then become trial-only shards; characters will still be accessible at any time, and you will be able to relocate to another shard in a few minutes thanks to the free transfer tool.

The sub-forums belonging to those trial-only shards will be put into archive mode; rest assured, no messages will be deleted.

With the huge increase of the server capacity, we should be ready for the impact of Storm Legion and all of your friends and guildmates.

If you have any questions about how to transfer your guild or your character, you can find more information at in our support portal at https://support.trionworlds.com/app/...13/kw/transfer (sub correct link as appropriate). The plat and level restrictions on transferring characters will be removed to allow you to transfer quickly.

Awesome! Maybe now Argent will get a bit more players so it doesn't feel completely ghost town

That was fast! My only problem now is that I can see a lot of people joining Icewatch which will then require another bump up on capacity.

That's awesome. I wish they would increase the number of characters per server though, because there aren't many left of each type, and now it looks like there will be even fewer.

Even though I am not an EU player, that is still awesome! I bet this will be good for Conquest!

Will they do this on US servers?
    Case: Thermaltake A60
    MB: ASRock Z68 Ext3 Gen3
    CPU: i5 2500k, Windows 8.1 64 Bit
    GPU: HIS 6870 1gb
    PSU: Corsair GS 600
    SSD: Crucial M4 128g

Have to say that the lag on Icewatch is still not gone. Raiding in ID tonight is futile, DPS is down significantly because everyone is having to repeatedly mash abilities to get them to fire. They really need to sort this out.

From what I've heard a lot of the lag is because of Conqust. Apparently they're running it off the same instance servers they run other instances off of so the lag bleeds over : /

It would be kinda cool for the US to get superservers as well though. Always a fan of increasing the number of players that you see in the world/are around for dungeons/raids ect.

It should be happening this week, but that depends on everything going as planned

And to answer the question (apologies as I see now it wasn't as clear as it could be) - yes, all European players (French/German/English) will be playing on one mega Wargroup.

    Cheers,

True to form Trion roll this out super fast, mere days after announcing it:

    Hey all,

Just wanted to let you all know this is now scheduled to occur early in the morning in Europe tomorrow, Wednesday July 4th.

We anticipate it will take around 2.5 hours but given the scope of the reconfiguration additional time may be necessary. We'll of course keep you up to date throughout the downtime!

    Cheers

Sounds pretty good...a bit saddening that the game subs have decreased this much though.

  12. #12
"Decreased this much"?They're not simply merging servers, they're merging them onto servers with higher population caps so that there will be far more players on each individual server well beyond the initial caps.

They might be down, but we don't have any serious indication of that from what I've seen so far.

I wonder if they will do this with the US servers. Supposedly the game is less popular in EU than NA, but Trion/Rift still opened way to many servers @ panic level.

Think the whole server idea needs to go away in the future. There shouldn't be segregated servers- just districts we can freely hop between. One day an MMO will lead the way...

I know DCUO, Champions Online, GW1 (?) and a number of Korean MMO's do this. I'm a big fan of this type of system. Heck, Aion and TERA have this system in addition to having multiple separate servers (as far as I remember).

Yea, "super servers". But the idea has yet to catch on. GW2 sorta gets halfway there with guesting and home servers, though they have some iffy design that necceasates the latter.

I really hope its new hardware for the EU(they have not said) not just pop cap increase, this evening on medium pop Icewatch (which is the busiest EU shard) was laggy as hell in 2 different raid zones (HK and ID), without conquest being running.

Yep, GW1 had them too. Each outpost (town) had as many instances of its itself as was necessary, based on pop, and you could freely switch between them until you found who/what you were looking for.

    they haven't

also keep in mind that since the caps have raised, it will still show medium/low based on the new cap, not the old cap. So Medium Icewatch now probably has 3x what medium Icewatch used to have.

Icewatch has had a pretty nasty queue since this change. I'm all for more people in the world but wasn't expecting this.

Yeah, I'm wondering if they sent the other servers to Icewatch only or something? Bloodiron went from medium old scale to low on new scale, icewatch went from medium to high.
