Need blogging tips.

My wife wants to try blogging and I'm curious if any experienced bloggers here have any tips.

Which site to use(blogger, wordpress, other?), how to promote, etc...

I like blogger myself. It is very user-friendly and customizable for mobile. My MMOResearch site was picked up by Google in about 2 weeks, which is really quick from what I understand.
