geforce 9600m gt doesnt wanna update drivers on a laptop..

so i cant play bf3 with my laptop cuz it complains the gpu drivers aint up to date..

windows vista says they are up to date..

when i check the drivers they clearly aint up to date..

but when i try to install newer drivers the installer says i dont have a GPU that supports them..

so i did some research and apparently my GPU ( nvidia geforce 9600m GT ) shuld run bf3 but it doesnt just cause the drivers dont wanna get updated. There was some mumbo jumbo on interwebs about laptop GPU saying its upto date and driver not installing due to that cuz its "integrated" or summat and the update program thingy doesnt regocnize the gpu as their product. Also found some mumbo jumbo about fixin some text folders to "fool" or more like "tell" the windows that the drivers aint the best ones and heres the new driver, use this. too bad i dont understand dat shit to slightest so mayb some pro computer dude culd help meh?

    hi guys
    i have Solved the problem.

view num ID device in (properties stardard graphic)
    on my acer 7720G
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&CC_0300
    (061C10DE is my acer vendor)
and take the string in bold very important
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE&REV_A1

    go to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\270.61\Vista 64-bit\International\Display.Driver\
    open ListDevices.txt with notepad
    find line within DEV_0649
    you will see
    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_05731558 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT"
add new line with your string like

    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT"
    save file ListDevices.txt
scroll up few line you must see name of file may be like "nvac.inf:"
open this file and find with 0649

    you will go to

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.02% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_01211025
    ...................................
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.20% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_013B1025

    add new line
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.21% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE
repeat for all section to the end
save this file and run setup normal.
during install windows alert it is not right driver , dont worry just click ok
    restart and you will see
does someone understand what this guy is on about and how to do this?

It is basically telling you to go into the driver config and manually tell the computer to tell the driver installer that your graphics card is a valid component, which would allow the installer to, well, install. You do this by adding some lines to a text file. Just make sure you find out exactly which lines to change, because if you get it wrong, you could be in for some serious headaches.

I'm afraid I can't help you there, I try to take as much a hands-off approach to driver maintenance as I can :/

he does say how to do it, its just in a big heap of confusion. lemmie try and split it and make it clearer:

MAKE SURE TO CREATE A RESTORE POINT BEFORE THIS

go to my computer, select your harddrive, and then go follow this path of files:
    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\270.61\Vista 64-bit\International\Display.Driver\
(so you go into the NVIDIA folder, then the DisplayDriver folder etc etc)

open ListDevices.txt with notepad (right click it, go to open with, then notepad

look for the line of code that says "DEV_0649"

    you will see this:
    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_05731558 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT"

under this line of code add this (think thats what he means):
    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT"

press save, close it then open this file "nvac.inf:"
press ctrl + r and search for this: "0649"

you will be taken to something like this:

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.02% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_01211025
    ...................................
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.20% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_013B1025

    under that, add this:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.21% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_061C10DE

repeat for all section to the end
save this file and then download and run the updated driversl.

windows will complain they are bad drivers, just press ok and carry on

    restart PC

    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_11481734 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT "

thats what i have in device list atm, the bottom line is mine

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.017E.1025% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_017E1025
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.0800.107B% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_0800107B

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.1148.1021% = Section005, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_11481734

    +

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.017E.1025% = Section006, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_017E1025
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.0800.107B% = Section006, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_0800107B

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.1148.1021% = Section006, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_11481734

is what i have in the nvac

and it still doesnt work.. :<

    also tried this

    Ncvc.inf

    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_04811558 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT"
    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_05731558 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT "
    DEV_0649&SUBSYS_11481734 "NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT "

    and this in ncvc text

    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.0481.1558% = Section007, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_04811558
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.0573.1558% = Section007, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_05731558
    %NVIDIA_DEV.0649.1148.1559% = Section007, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0649&SUBSYS_11481734
