    Games you should retry

I was thinking and decided to make a thread for people to post in about games that they think people should retry as it's much better etc.

For example when Rift came out i didn't like it, there were a few things i didn't like. I tried it again a few days ago and i'm loving it, the realms have been merged so it seems more popular, questing is a lot easier with Instant Adventures (You sign up and randomly do quests in a raid throughout zones, you get a lot of money and experience!), something called Conquest has been introduced which i'm not high enough level for yet but it sounds awesome (Sort of like World vs World so i've heard).

Overall the game just seems so much better and it seems Trion keep improving it no matter how many people play. A new expansion is coming this year introducing new souls, 10 more levels, more dungeons and raids etc.

I would recommend giving it another go, i'm pretty sure you can try it for free to level 20, and there is an ascend a friend programe which is like RAF, i don't think you get the exp boost but you get some items and what not. (check out the ascend a friend sticky in the Rift forums).

So yeah, does anyone else recommend games for people to try? Be it games that came out buggy and now they're a lot better, MMO's that have been greatly improved? Or any other reason!

Vagrant Story instantly comes to mind. When I first played it, the steep learning curve and my young age led me to be pretty frustrated with the game. Yet I tried it a few years later and fell in love with it, especially due to the intense style and very brilliantly designed locations, characters and enemies. It also has one of my favourite soundtracks, too. To think I almost missed out on so much enjoyment from a game!

The bullet-crazy shooter Ikaruga was a game I rented as a kid and found way too daunting to enjoy. I could only get to the third level by the skin of my teeth, and never saw it past there. When I hit an older age I decided to pick it up on xbox live and play it through, and I found that it's still tough as nails to play. That being said, both the levels and the soundtrack are well worth learning to play the game to see - and trying again and again to complete it on its hardest difficulty is providing a pretty awesome challenge.

Some of the levels of play people approach in this game are insane.

    I played Final Fantasy 7 as a kid...perhaps 10 or 11 years old.

Went back and played it through again twice (I missed a few materia my first go), in about 1/4 of the time, and was able to down both Emerald and Ruby Weapon. The thought process on materia combos, and paying careful attention in each area to find everything, etc...game was just as fun this time around and I felt proud to revisit a timeless classic.

I felt the same way about Metroid Prime. That game was soul crushingly hard when I was 9, but I played it earlier this year and it wasn't too difficult, and the game was just as amazing as I remembered it.

Witcher 2.. I know it's a solid game. Just when I initially played it, it did not agree with my PC. Which is silly because it could more than run games of that caliber.
I think I got halfway through act 1 before being fed up with the terrible performance.. I have a different, better, PC now and should really give it a shot sooner or later. But it's not like I really got time for that.. Alas, a good RPG on my list of to-do-things.

    Just Cause 2.

I played the first game and picked up the second. Two missions in I turned it off and I've never started it again. After seeing gameplay videos I'm intrigued to try it again, but the piss-poor dialogue (read: voice acting) turns me off completely.

I upgraded my GPU just to play... I should go back and play it.

I'm currently retrying Rift, I'm kind of bored leveling. I really am having a hard time doing it, the zones feel so dull.. like, the game doesn't feel like it has it's own character or pizzazz, I can't describe it well, but it's fairly off putting for me.

Red Dead Redemption...I know too many friends who quit after the first few horse and lasso missions...It is one of the best games ever made, and everyone should have the opportunity to play it.

I haven't retried any games but I think I should go back to WC III and Starcraft since it was beyond me to be able to beat any rts games without cheats 10 years ago.

You'd be surprised how easy Wc3 and Starcraft 1 are. I had problems with a lot of RTS games (First C&C and first Red Alert for example). Tried them again after a few years and it was cakewalk ^^

I love final fantasy to death. I've tried playing XIII and I could just never get into it. :/

The 3 games I play through at least once a year almost religiously are:
Final Fantasy 9: I absolutely love the story and cartoony yet serious graphics in this game, the soundtrack is also amazing. My only issues are attempting to steal a couple certain items and my love/hate relationship with chocobo hot/cold.
Breath of Fire 3: By far the best in the series in my opinion. A decent game all around with a good difficulty curve even if you take time to level, a huge statistics game if you want to mess with it as well in Masters and spells you learn from monsters. I also love fishing for some reason i can't fathom, though I hate to admit I enjoyed fishing in the 4th game of the series more.
Wild Arms 2: An amazing story, a fantastic soundtrack, tons of 'hard mode' bosses with varying strategies, secret characters, hidden zones. I honestly don't think there is a single thing I dislike about this game aside from some 'personal skills' being a trap to put points into. Things that sound good but are about useless.

While I have never managed to finish it, I feel the need to mention FF6. This game... I just can't deal with it. I have tried, at least once a year, usually 2-3 times to last through it, and I just can't manage to do it. I had the patience to beat FF8 at level 8-9 by abusing the 'card' trick... but I can't manage to finish FF6.

I been wanting to play The Witcher *Enhanced Edition* that i got but it has a driver problem with windows 7 *its a copy right protect thing that has problems with win7* i haven't felt like messing with it to remove it and update it so i don't get the admin bug *where it says you need to be a admin to play even tho u are*

wouldn't mind playing skyrim on my computer *had it on 360* but i did everything i could on it on my 360 and can't bring myself to do it yet.

I might get a flaming for being bad here, but WC3 and SC1 were pretty nails on the harder difficulties, no?

I had no problem with starcraft, but I've always been god awful at WC3 because of the sheer amount of micromanagement it took to be good. I prefer TA:Kingdoms if I'm going to play an old rts, because you didn't need a ton of management to win, but you also couldn't be retarded either.

I heard that, but it also looks fun as hell. If it goes on sale in the Steam Summer Sale I will buy it and see

    Also, relevant:

Leveling in RIFT is a total bitch, I've been playing since early access and I still haven't leveled up two of my alts. The new Instant Adventures helps a bit, and I managed to do my rogue through PvP while they were OP and I could twink her to high heaven, sadly almost all of the (significant amount of) love and attention Trion gives RIFT goes into the endgame. Make it to 50, and it's a different game. Also I think two of the best zones, Shimmersand and Ironpine Peaks, are 42+ zones.

I have a copy of Company of Heros that I never got passed the third mission. I got beat by the AI (lulz I suck) and never got around to going back. It's not a bad game or anything, not that I recall, I just never got around to it. Now it's not even installed on my current computer.
