So far the entire thing seems to be about what Britain was, not what it is. Maypole dancing, victorians playing cricket, horse and carts, sure, we have plenty of fields ... just not exactly anywhere near London.

It just seems like such a slow and tediously crap start ...

To myself it's a boring history lesson that we all already know.

Half of the significance of the field was to show how we stripped away the land to progress industry, aren't we nice.

As awesome a stereotype about top hats, pipes and monocles is .. people are supposed to view it as a joke, you're not supposed to perpetuate it. People will actually begin to think this is what life is like over here >.>

They gonna go onto a skyscrapers and digital age with wifi and internet and television everywhere in the next segment?

Most opening ceremonies are about showing off the history of the country. It may not be what those living in the country want to see but it is appealing to those outside of that country.

French is the first language of the International Olympic Committee (the guys who run it all).

"The London Olympics will be officially conducted in French with English as its second language, according to previously secret contracts seen by The Daily Telegraph.

As the first tongue of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it must take precedence at medal-giving and all other Olympic ceremonies. "Billboards and pageantry" in French as well as English must be displayed throughout the capital.
