CSI: NY - Baba O'Riley by the Who (I haven't even seen many episodes of this show, but the song is a true classic)

Twin Peaks - Twin Peaks theme by Angelo Badalamenti (not sure if there's another name for it - a beautiful and haunting melody, I loved this show in the early 90's, forever sad about it ending with a cliffhanger that never got resolved)

I usually like any theme music of songs after I here them after a while...

All the CSI ones are great because The Who is great.
My favorite though would have to be the opening to the 2nd season of The Wire. They used a different version of this song for each season and they are all very good but the original Tom Waits version has to be the best.

The tv series actually used a cover version by Love Spit Love which is ok, but the original by The Smiths is much much better. One of my favorite songs.

I read IGN's Top 50 Theme Songs of All-Time for inspiration. Can't say I agree too much with their top 20, but at least they had MASH at #2. It however reminded me of Miami Vice theme, which is definitely pretty high up on my list too.

That list is just another nostalgia-filled "if it is not at least 20 years old or older, it sucks" kind of lists. Although it did remind me of one of the cheesyist TV themes ever:

Too bad the English dub of Eden of the East went with a crappy japanese OP cuz they couldn't afford Oasis. The song fit so perfectly I actually thought it had been written for the show at first.
Firefly is awesome... and Greatest American Hero is a classic.
Some of the others tho... the OPs are great, but the theme songs would be forgettable if not for the show they're attached to. =)

Alphas, it is short and sweet:
Battlestar Galactica, It is sad and beautiful and then cranks up the action suddenly which fits the show itself quite well.
