Question Gun Control? A good idea?

Well bad things happened. Now there's discussion on the gun control laws. So let's talk.

Also there shall be a small poll.

P.S. I know little about gun control.

The only reason why people are herp derping about gun control is because the founding fathers said we have the right to bear arms, although thousands die from it.
The lips of the righteous shall meditate wisdom, and he shall speak justice.

Thousands die from guns because instead of educating people on guns, it is some sort of taboo subject, that just gets banned out right. Guess what? Banning guns only stops law abiding citizens from getting them, the criminals will still get them.

All it would've taken to stop the shooter at the Batman movie premiere is one trained, educated CCW holder and a well placed shot.

or making it harder for the gunman to get a gun, spare his life, and you dont need a few deaths before action happens.

I just think there needs to be a little realism when someone buys 4 firearms in the space of 2 or 3 months, some kind of flag shouldve popped up.

Im not a hunter, but isnt an AR15 overkill for a deer, elk or duck?

The 2nd amendment is dumb as hell and a relic from an ancient age. Guns in the hands of civilians serve no constructive purpose.

Civilians have the right to bear arms. We're not going to ban cars because traffic accidents kill people, are we?

I don't believe I've ever met anyone on either side that has changed their opinion. I'm not giving up my guns, but I will agree to weapons training prior to being allowed to purchase a weapon. I took the local NRA classes, so should others.

Yes, everyone should have a gun on them everywhere. Next time its a shooting at a beach and what then?

Guns should be a right for everyone, this doenst mean in any way that they should just be given to anyone, a precise investigation of the gun's possible owner should be done and a few tests and a mandatory training too. Apart from that i think it should be possibel for any law abbiding citizen to have a gun, why should we be kept away from a tool that can one day save our life or the life of someone else?

There are various types of weapons people just don't need to have. Some of those weapons are certain types of guns. Banning weapons does not prevent people from getting them, it doesn't stop people from killing with them, and it doesn't stop people from killing. Many crimes in nations where guns are banned are stabbings, strangling, and all variety of inventive ways to kill people.

Stupid and violent people are the problem, not the weapons available to them legally.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

Sovereign countries have the right to nuclear weapons. We are not going to stop nuclear proliferation because nukes kills people and contaminate areas for thousands of years, are we?

The founding fathers said let there be guns because people needed them back then.

It's 2012, you aren't defending your families from bears and natives anymore..
Take a break from politics once in awhile, it's good for you.

In Australia we have very heavy gun control, which is fine here.

In the US - I don't think they should take guns away to the level they have here, however I'm more concerned about the type of guns and armour that can be purchased.

A non-concealable weapon, without silencer capable of 6 manual or semi-automatic shots seems the maximum a civilian should have.

Any thing else should be tightly controlled in my opinion.

Guns in the U.S. aren't controlled? Who knew.

What's the problem with buying a lot of guns? Why is it different than buying one gun? You only need 1 gun to hurt or kill someone. But, many people buy guns just to collect them. Again, proper education is more important than banning.

Also, an AR-15 would be UNDERkill for deer and elk, and duck would be significantly hard to hit with an AR-15. A stock AR-15 fires a significantly smaller caliber round than most hunting rifles(EX: a .30-30), it would most likely wound the animal, not kill it.

Guns are designed to kill, cars are designed for transport.

So don't be silly with the comparisons please.

Uhhh no... AR15 rounds are really small. Less than half the size and weight hunters normally use for killing deer.

I'd rather take the risk of losing a few thousand people a year to gun violence than losing the security owning a gun provides. My owning a gun allows me the peace of mind knowing that I have a fighting chance if someone ever breaks into my home. And if anyone ever decided to invade my country, they would be forced to go door to door killing us before we surrendered. The same can't be said for some other nations. Once your police and military have been stretched thin or eradicated, the only thing standing between you and the aliens/Commies/zombies is a personal firearm. When that goes away, you become nothing more than a goat tied to a tree.
