    *shock!*

A game that might be played by people who are not MMO players?
But I thought the only people who play/might play MMOs are already MMO players, and we all know there's only 12 million of them, so GW2 can't do anything about it and will be empty in a month!

I played it and i was dissapointed with it. It was almost impossible to die even when pulling giant packs considering all your swings are AoE it was far too easy. When i finaly found a quest (low level though) that involved riddles i thought i had a challange.... sadly 2 out of the 3 awnsers you could pick didn't make any sense what so ever, they were so easy a 3 year old could solve them.

Not sure if i'll touch it when it releases, but we will see

I'm gonna be one them, I think, the "singleplayer" part of the game got me really hooked

I'm thinking it will have huge numbers in the next 3-4 months then drop off considerably within 7-8months and taper out at around 2-3mil and a lot of those will probably be into pvp. Since it is the one opponent/challenge that always changes.

But because of the quality of the game, when they release an expansion many will return for that.

The combat gets harder after the first few levels and you actually need to pay attention to kill them, that's a part i liked about the game that if you just stand there and let them hit you any mob would kill you quite easy.

Wait... it sounds like you did the Norn tutorial instance and when you finished you did the first heart you came across and called it 'too easy'... erm... I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it sounds like that to me. What exactly did you do? Can you be more specific than "Pulled mobs, AEed them down, did some riddles".

It doesn't seem to be going that way - - 25% of voters say 1 million +. I'm thinkin a couple million...give or take a few hundred thousand. :-)

But I'll be playing GW2 as an alternate when I get a lil burned out on WoW. It'll be a nice change of pace from time to time.

First year, around 2-3 milions, but it will grow after expansions. My predict is that GW2 will have around 5 mln players at its best.

I love GW2 and ArenaNet so much, but there will be no game now or in the future that will be close to the number that WoW achieved. Even TITAN won't achieve that number, and im sure of that. WoW is a phenomenon, the exception from the average. And all ppl must get over it. GW2 will be a succes but nowhere near than WoW.

uhm, its hard to kinda measure active players in a B2P game since there is no "unsub" oO just sayin... and why even make poll about it? Is someone afraid to play "the wrong game" or lol what? Answer to that is the right game is the game you enjoy most.

don't mean to sound unfriendly but Im just confused, don't see the logic behind this polls about "Gw2 good or bad" and stuff...

Round about way to say it's going to/it's not going to compete with WoW and/or fail in my opinion. But honestly, we're all kinda talking out of our asses because we can't see into the future.

i expect the first xpac or DLC pac be out in less than one year, so this how many players will be playing in 1 year time is a bit subjective.

Players can drop the game after reaching max level and done whatever their goals were, and buy the next DLC pack or xpac when it comes out.

if you are looking to figures similar to other sub MMO, i will guess around 1million will play constantly over the full year

What game did you play ?

try playing an elementalist at level 20+ you'll be 3-shotted by ordinary mobs killing 2 mobs at once (esp ranged mobs) was a real pain :<

Due to its buy it once then done approach, I'd say GW2 will hit an impressive amount of players. It has a huge appeal in its design, and the non-commital of it is just supremely enticing to this generation of gamers.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if it had 3 million+ after the first year.

Just wanted to hop in and say this, WoW is the biggest because it has become mainstream in the gaming world, people buy and play it because their friends play it too and so on. "If so many play the game it must be good right?" many may think. (not bashing, I play/played/gonna play later too)
The reason why no other game has had any chance to reach their status or what you want to call it is because they are pretty much straight up wow-copies.

Its almost to compare Iphone and Android. Everyone have an Iphone because everyone else has one. But in the end you will buy the product that will satisfy you needs the best.

And IMO Gw2 is different and it has no sub fee, many choose to play Gw2 in addition to wow or any other mmo/ sub game,so it may actually have a chance to become mainstream... if given the time.

Depends how much they add in that first year.

If it's like WoW or worse, sub 500k, if it's like Rift or more, I'd say 3mil+.

Problem is the no-sub kind of stunts development post-launch. I'm going with ~500k.
