When did Patriotism become synonymous with Bigotry?

I'm 28 years old, and I can remember during my childhood when having pride in your country was something that was encouraged by American society. Now anytime I insinuate that America is the best country on the planet, I have a ton of liberals telling me that I must be uneducated, and ignorant, and stupid. When did this change occur? It must have been within the last ten years or so, because I remember National Pride still being pretty big right after 9/11 -- and that wasn't too long ago.

You don't have to claim that the US is the best nation in the world to be patriotic. I am patriotic in that I will defend my home and my people if need be, and that I want whats best for American society, but I'm not going to be arrogant and say the US is the best nation in the world, especially since I haven't visited most of the other nations out there.

You actually thought people would agree with your Olympics only for America thread?

There's no problem with loving your country. But people don't much care for the implication that their country is trash in comparison.

You don't have to travel to another country to figure this out, bro. Open a History book sometime, or turn on the news. There is a reason millions of European, Asian, and South Americans are fighting to gain American citizenship every single day.

Yeah that is only American phenomena. Not to mention America is not on any(?) scale the best country in the world
Opened the biggest news media and first piece of news regarding is on seventh, and it's about Phelphs.

I love the ideals my country is founded on. But we suck in a lot of ways and I know it. Jingoism and willful ignorance won't fix that.

I am sure there are other countries that have immigrants seeking citizenship, but one truth remains: You don't see any Americans seeking citizenship else where. This is not something any other country on the planet can claim. I know a ton of British, German and Australian chicks who admitted that they would marry an American man just so they could live here. I have never heard an American girl say that about any European or Asian country.

Must be the same reason why many rich Americans are fleeing USA

I'm proud that I can play classical guitar. Am I in the right to just criticize other guitar players because I'm clearly better than all of them?

Well, I beleive that the US is the greatest country in the world. That doesn't mean that I don't think others are close, though. It also doesn't mean I'll argue with someone who thinks some other place may be the best, because that is their opinion, just like what I beleive is my opinion.

America is getting a horrible reputation...
    1) Oil-themed invasions/wars
    2) Gun laws
    3) Simpsons
    4) Jehova's witnesses
    etc

You can hear the OPs rear end clenching from that too eh? Yeah its an awfully loud sound.

There is being patriotic and then there is being incredibly close minded and ignorant. For example, if a person were to suggest "Screw the world! We are the best! deserve the Olympics ever year!" that would be considered egotistical and ignorant of the meaning of the Olympic games. Now saying "I love my country. Our athletes make us proud everyday!" is patriotic, yet humble.

Its great to be patriotic but theres no reason to be a douche about it. Humility is a virtue.

You don't see any Americans seeking citizenship else where.
I dont normally say this at a post but I just cant help it. LOL

Apparently there are no Americans living abroad anywhere. Like the person at the desk across from mine. Great guy. He was born in California but his family moved to Canada when he was a teen. He has Canadian and American citizenship. Seriously, how can one person be so ignorant. I still love my neighbours to the south though

With all do respect MMO-champion perhaps this is a man you do not understand, some men aren't looking for anything logical, they can't be bullied, bought, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the forums burn.

Congratulations on graduating to expert level trolling, I would stick around but I'm busy getting gay married in 13 states and performing roadside abortions while passing bills that take away people's guns while i sip superior european wine and cheese i bought with european style socialist money, arrivaderci!

THe very fact you blame liberals, kinda points out your own prejudice and bigotry. Funny ain't it?

Why shouldn't America get the Olympics every year? Without us, you wouldn't even be here. We saved all of Europe during World War I & II, spared Japan, and later saved Korea after destroying China. No other country on the planet has done what we have done. Every single country on the planet is in debt to America, because without us, they wouldn't even exist.

Every country in the Middle East has their freedom because of us.

This is why we get a bad reputation for being arrogant....

Without the other countries Germany would have crushed us, it works both ways.

We saved all of Europe . . . with Russia and Britain's help (and a few other nations too.) We would not have done it alone.

I suggest you go open the history books, and not the ones written by propagandists.

You don't really seem to understand the point to the Olympics but that's ok.
