Okay, how long's it take to get any sort of decent storage in this game? I only have the starter backpack and the belt pouch and unless something opens up soon I'm going to have to start vendoring crafting materials. :P (Still in pre-Searing, btw.)
In all my years (GW1 alpha player here), I have never filled my pack in GW1 BEFORE The Searing.
Lane. When you claim to be a pack rat, you do not fuck around.
It's not that hard. o_O I've got at least 4 slots taken up with quest items, 2 slots for ID & Salvaging kits, like 10 slots for crafting materials. I guess I should have just been vendoring everything and not salvaging until after pre, I don't know. It leaves me with maybe 2 rows to pick up stuff while I quest.
It's the tutorial. Pre-Searing is the tutorial.
I don't even know what to say, haha. XD
Thinking about making a new character in GW1 lately. I got some down time between MMOs at the moment. Might take one of our bank accounts to 30/50. Or maybe finish Nightfall on my last Mesmer.
Not sure. I just got the itch for GW1 again.
I like to keep stuff (that might be useful), but still to do all that in the pre-searing XD...haha. I think there is sort of an achievement or something if u reach level 20 on pre-searing? Haha I don't remember anymore. Anyhow...as I thought I said on last post but didn't. All I did on pre-searing was pretty much my prof quests, and some nice quests (like the one you need someone to open the gate for you...) But it's rather quick haha
It is a Hell of a long tutorial then. New quests just keep popping up all over the place, I'm never done.
Does the level 20 achievement count towards HoM?
I'll gladly group up with anyone going for HoM stuff, though obviously I'm still not past the tutorial yet. :P My first goal is to get 3 more points for the full Heritage armor sets, then I'd like to shoot for the dagger skins at 13 points. Beyond that I think it starts to get costly to get points without having the trilogy. :\
I am not sure if the level 20 Pre-Searing achievement counts to HOM. Don't think it does though.
Don't even try to do that (even though it is easier than before) achievement unless you know exactly how the game works or have a precise guide. It's like getting stupid drunk or win the 2.5 million lottery tickets- you need to be prepared.
And yes, the tutorials are long for all the campaigns.
Quite honestly, one is playing Guild Wars incorrectly by doing all the quests. The quests were in the game to provide... adventure and flavor. Progression, drive, reward and reasoning of Guild Wars 1 is almost entirely based around the Missions.
The easiest way to advance HOM in GW1 is with money. Just buy a crapton of mini pets. Although beware, there are now a lot of price gougers in SPAMadan selling low quality pets for jacked up prices.

It does count to HoM, I wouldn't bother with leveling to 20 though since it's just one statue. The only reason to go for LDOA is when you're aiming for GWAMM.
If you're really dedicated (and might go for GWAMM) take your time and do it. The area where you farm for levels has 4bosses on a plateau, those have a chance to drop better bags (you can buy them in post searing though).
It goes a lot faster if you're with 2 (and is a lot safer), especially if you use the imp (/bonus the item is igneous stone) and simply don't complete the "daily quest", I'm not sure what npc gives them though. Just zone out and go again

Oh man, they got a daily for it now? Lamest thing ever.
People shouldn't even be allowed to get HOM points anymore. They deserve nothing.
I don't like the company you became, Arena.net.
Every little bit counts. :P
Where is that area?If you're really dedicated (and might go for GWAMM) take your time and do it. The area where you farm for levels has 4bosses on a plateau, those have a chance to drop better bags (you can buy them in post searing though).
I haven't come across any dailies yet.It goes a lot faster if you're with 2 (and is a lot safer), especially if you use the imp (/bonus the item is igneous stone) and simply don't complete the "daily quest", I'm not sure what npc gives them though. Just zone out and go again
By the way, should I be able to (or want to) get multiple tapestry scraps from Gwen using alts?
You need to be level 10 and they're called vanguard quests http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lieutenant_Langmar. You get 1k xp upon completion but that's not what you want to do. If possible have 2 accounts, both with different quests. I don't recall which combination give the best XP anymore but it's all about killing the enemies that are spawned because of the quests. You do not complete the quest (depending on what one you either don't escort the npc back or don't kill all charr). You just go to ascalon and repeat the proces (think of the "boar farming" from the south park wow episode ).
The area is to the right of ascalon. As you zone out run towards the big gate, on top is a lever which someone needs to pull inorder for the gate to open (lfgm 100g, means looking for gate monkey I'll pay 100g).
Nothing you get in pre is worth anything in post apart from charr bags and dyes/mats.
And yes fencers I agree, they made lots of titles way to easy and 50/50 hom is too easy as well.
Well, I looked at the wiki page on it and they suggest not doing any quests but your profession ones and grind your way to at least level 10. So, I may just make a new alt for that.
I wanted to try the "SS Necro" build, but I don't know when you get Spiteful Spirit. Then I tried Fencers' suggestion of ele/monk, which so far has been like a prot pally with Rain of Fire. :P
My bf and I were also looking at the "55 Monk" build, but since it requires specific gear I don't know if we'll end up doing that. The wiki page also doesn't say much of anything about a secondary profession (even saying monk doesn't have to be primary), so I have no idea what it'd be best to pair with, warrior for melee/armor maybe?
Easy if you're a veteran and know WTF you're doing, maybe. 30/50 still seems daunting as Hell to me and I've only heard horror stories about the grind required for 50/50.
But you don't even deserve 30/50. -_-
There should be NO WAY possible for a player to even get 1 HOM point. The fact one could be even contemplate or consider getting Ascalon Defender, which veterans didn't do typically for years-- is already an insult from what Guild Wars was and is now. And Anet's allowance of debasing of their game. Which not just fans but pundits and critics consider among the finest MMOs created.
It's like allowing EQ players these days to buy their corpse. Disgraceful.
That's life? I'm kind of surprised it bothers you this much when it happens in nearly every game. At least it's especially prevalent in WoW, so maybe that's why I'm over it. I can name several things I busted my ass for in that game which were basically given away for nothing later.
Hell, Anet could have just sold the HoM skin packages separately. I've seen that happen in other games too. "Oh, you got your [special item] through blood, sweat, and tears? Here, we're adding it to the cash shop!"
If they did do what you said in your second paragraph, Lane, then I really would be upset.
About making certain things easier to obtain for the Hall of Monuments in GW1? I don't care about it.
Not sure why Fencers does but she is weird like that.
So true.
And I despise it in every game.I'm kind of surprised it bothers you this much when it happens in nearly every game.
Never am I in favor of greater accessibility or streamlining when it effects challenge, mechanics, playability, et cetera.
Well, WoW is like the most vulgar MMO ever made. The only MMOs on par are like MMO made for actual children such as Wizard 101 or The Sims Online. At least it's especially prevalent in WoW, so maybe that's why I'm over it.
Not sure it matters in a game intended to be as broad as possible.
Don't care about HOM skins. I care that the experience of playing Guild Wars is changed for the lesser and baser audience.Hell, Anet could have just sold the HoM skin packages separately.
It would be fine if one could buy Diamond Aegis in the cash shop. It is less fine if say Cartographer was given for simply visiting a zone in GW1.
Ah, I see. I can understand that.
Honestly, I'd rather they had sold them separately, especially since the HoM skins are (arguably) better looking than anything Anet's put in the gem store thus far. Not to knock GW1, but I wasn't particularly keen on playing a game just to get things in a game that I'd rather be playing, if that makes any sense. :P
GW1 has surprisingly held up well over the years. Honestly, I was expecting it to graphically look more like Diablo II and with similar gameplay. I seem to remember it came out when I was still playing D2, but all of my friends hated it so I never bothered with it at the time. You know me and anything that requires groups to complete. :P
