    Is Chivalry Dead?

Ive been asking this question alot lately because it seems that the world has strayed away from this to go with swagger and douche baggery. Oh and some people think its a name so i think the world is gonna burn soon. Im male btw and use this often.

it's not dead, and probably never will be. it's just far less adhered to, it's no longer the social "norm"

This will devolve into a bunch of people sharing anecdotes about how they're chivalrous, and then a bunch of feminists shouting about how it demeans them.
They can dynamite Devil Reef, but that will bring no relief, Y'ha-nthlei is deeper than they know.

    Who's Chivalry?

No seriously, it's not dead, it's getting more and more rare. Which is great for those who wield it.

I'll take the former a thousand times of the latter.

Humanity has never been as peaceful and charitable as it is nowadays. People have been whining about whatever generation came after theirs for hundreds of years now. There's even a quote by some Ancient Greece philosopher saying how his time's kids were disrespectful and arrogant (can't be arsed to look it up atm, sorry, but shouldn't be hard to find).

As a male, I can confirm it's not dead.
Science flies you to the moon. Religion flies you into buildings.
To resist the influence of others, knowledge of oneself is most important.

    Pretty much.
I've heard horror stories from nice guys being respectable to women like holding doors open for them and getting slapped.
If I were there and that happened in front of me I would slap that lady even harder and tell her to stop being a (insert foul insult here)

I hate self entitled women and extreme feminists. I have boobs too, doesn't mean I go around making men feel like they owe me the world and at the same time demanding equality. Yay for hypocrites.

I don't see why people think chivalry was somehow "alive" in the past.

Sure it isn't, but it's very rare, try it on a normal girl, she will think you're a weird creep and a serial killer.

I hope by hundreds you mean hundreds of thousands. By the time we could speak, cavemen were screaming "GET OFF MY ROCKS!" to the younger generation. I don't blame them, I'll be doing when I'm their age too.

Anyways, I treat everyone equally, as women say they want to be treated, so I'm not chivalrous, but I am fair and generally kind (sometimes).

Its as alive as it has always been. Chivalry was never a common thing, despite what historical novels may let you believe.

What does chivalry has to do with girls? I always thought its about honourable behaviour.

Chivalry? As in men treating women different just because they are women?

Yeah its dead. Thank the feminazis.
It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere.

It's still alive, we just don't see it around too much.

    So here's a link for reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chivalry

The Knight's Code of Chivalry was a moral system that stated all knights should protect others who can not protect themselves, such as widows, children, and elders.
To apply this in a modern way, it would mean to be overly nice and protective towards women, children, and the elderly. Breaking that further down:

In a modern society, women are able to hold their own. As such, we shouldn't need to feel protective or be excessively nice towards them.

For children under a certain age, sure, you should probably keep an eye out for them because they simply don't know better.

For the elderly, I'm sure we can help out where necessary (carrying shopping, helping them across the street, 'boy scout' stuff).

So in the above senses... For the young and the old, we can and should still feel chivalrous towards them, within reason. We should want to protect and help them when necessary. That said, I doubt the question is about chivalry towards these two groups: it's all about the third, isn't it?

Chivalry in the sense of being excessively nice towards women... I'll be honest, it should probably die off. As I said above women are much more able to hold their own in this modern day society than they were back in the medieval times, so won't need our 'protection'.

That said, there's nothing stopping everyone simply being polite to one another. The big example that keeps coming up is the 'holding doors open' thing. Instead of worrying about what someone will say, thus never holding doors open for anyone, we should go the other way: hold doors open for 'everyone', regardless of gender or age.

In other words, we should be nice and polite to everyone, instead of treat one group of people different from another. So yes, chivalry should die off, but it should be replaced with something better: equality and polite civility for all.

That's an archaic chivalry. There are no knights now, so the term is about other aspect of chivalry - princesses!

It's far from dead I can assure you. I've got multiple friends that are often very polite and chivalrous towards me (and are often quite baffled when I'm holding the door for them in return or something of the likes - always makes me chuckle). However you won't find this in the Swaggers and Gangstaz - so naturally... whether or not you experience this highly depends on the people you surround yourself with. And of course how you behave yourself... Don't expect chivalry when you're behaving like a nagging bitch (not saying anyone in this thread does, just trying to explain).
