You're going to have to help me out here. I can't really think of any DEs where someone with a mount would outperform someone without one.

All DEs I saw were either fixed in a location that wasn't overly large, so by taking time to mount up you might actually lose out on some of the activity, or they involved escorting/following NPCs that moved slower than normal run speed, so if you were mounted you'd end up ahead of the ambush and would have to run back to participate.

I may be missing something though.

I don't see the problem, there are already mounts in the game:

Its a little dififcult to articulate, but it was pretty clear in Rift where higher level players on faster mounts would get to events first and progress through faster, often ending that stage before the lower level players, who the event was aimed at, could make it there.

Admittedly its not such an issue with GW2 in that events are more localised, however thats just in low level zones, as we get higher the events supposedly get larger, and so travel speed discrepencies become more pronounced.

In Rift they have attempted to address it by making IA groups all receive a buff that increases mount speed to that of the fastest person in the group, so on one gets left behind.

If they added mounts [which I am not in favor of necessarily], they could just have like all the mounts come in 1 speed. To address the Rift problem as it were.

Have mounts like in Assassins Creed

    Like mentioned before:

We already have mounts in GW2 WvW.
    Working as environmental weapons.

    Again..

Simple as this. If they just make the mounts purely cosmetic. Then they wont move faster or slower than a player walking with his/her speed boost.

Even if a player doesn't use his/her speed boost they wont be very far behind a player that is using a mount. There's no way for a player on a mount to get to an even so much faster than a player that isn't that the even is over before no-mount-player gets there.

I could see them having mounts in their own style. Meaning that your skill bar would change like the Siege Devourers in GW1.

I'd love for them to put in some sort of fast vehicle you could build in WvWvW to transport a lot of people around in. Don't see the need for mounts in the PvE world, as the waypoints are everywhere.

They should let us build one of these Charr War Tanks for WvW!

Was told that there are these run speed+ cakes in the game cooks are able to craft. Supposedly. I don't know all the details myself as I am not a crafter type. Though it seemed worth mentioning as speculation at least for others like myself that find default OOC speed too slow.

    Make cakes.

Well there you go Fencers, now you have something to gain by crafting. I know you are the biggest crafting fan out there after all.

Imho I dont see the need for the mounts. I know, I know in every other game there are mounts, but I think gw2 has done a good job on keeping the need for it far away, as in many other games the fact that you can mount usually "stomp" the PvE experience. Now, I really wouldn't mind if the mounts were cosmetic, it would be a status thing and that's it.

As for increasing the movement speed out of combat, I don't really feel the need, cause then you'll be doing the same as if you had a mount, just rushing thru content. One of the things I like alot about Gw2 is that if it's too far away, I waypoint it, if it's not I walk there and I think while walking (I know pretty hard task) about how to approach this area with less "combat" possible, and sometimes I fail and engage a battle that I didn't but that's part of the game and I like it.

Hmm, mount in the PvE world I think would look weird and I dunno, the game would feel almost as a "F2P" game or hm maybe not the right word.. but a "Pay to win" kinda game ( where you buy the fastest and coolest mount for real life money) if only a few ran around on a mount, it would look weird and kind of ruin the feeling of the game. Mounts just don't belong in the Guild wars universe. IMO.

I would rather see a speed bonus of some sort that you can buy instead of a mount I guess (Not as a in cash shop item). But maybe that would turn out as an unfair advantage in some cases in the PvE world and with DE's and that stuff. In PvP it shouldn't be allowed ofc.
And in WvWvW, I think there should be a map wide speed boon, so that running won't feel that annoying when you ress for the 10th time after trying to take over a castle :P (I know you can upgrade with a waypoint, But some might want to run instead)

TBH, I'd rather not have mounts - especially since we have waypoints anyway.

How about they introduce drafting to WvW? Whereby if players run behind each other, they can slingshot forward for a 50% speed boost for x seconds? But...it only works if the player is bigger/the same size as you, to keep it realistic xD. Asura powah!

I like this idea. That means all those asura will be getting tons of FIFO achievements.

I think that getting mounts (IF they become available - don't really mind one way or the other, but I'd go out of my way to gain one if point 2 ends up happening)...

    1) They should be, as per the OP, purely cosmetic
    2) Pretty damned hard to achieve (And by hard, I don't mean grind for 300 hours hoping for a drop in order to get one). I'm thinking more along the lines of a sort of single player dungeon/personal story quest that no-one else can join which is do-able, but only if you know your profession inside out type deal. Would most likely be insane for ANet to balance due to the options on specs though...

If #2 actually does happen, I might never get one (Which I would be happy with, but again I'd be trying for quite some time before I admit defeat), but you'd know if you see someone that has a mount - they're pretty damned good.

Sometimes. Just sometimes, I want to simply get to my friends or destination quickly.

Current OOC speed boost is unsatisfactory for me.
use waypoints then? there is couple of them in every zone and if spending 30 seconds running (cause most areas can be reached from a waypoint in that time) is a problem then its really your personal problem not the game problem.

I haven't really played WoW in years. Not my style of MMO to be honest. More of an Everquest player.

So the whole rotten by convenience thing is a rather false assumption.
Doesn't change the fact that you seem to be looking for more convinience for yourself while playing the game. The very same convinience that kills wow slowly.
Wow in order to be more convvinient lost its "soul". People dont want to travel to instance? k, we will give them ability to summon. People still complain that its too big problem?k , we will give them instant teleport to the instance and thus kill the world completly. To save 3 minutes of people time we will lower quality of our game by 50%... I guess you get my point.
I personally wouldn't like gw2 to become more convinient for players. Imo atm its just right... you dont spend too much time for pointless travelling but its still there and still it forces you to be out in the world.

Idk why but i see people complaining about travelling in gw2 as little babies who cry because they have to go to the fridge to get their pudding instead of having it handed by mommy...

I hope they won't implement mounts of any kind. They make the world feel much more smaller to me.
