Why do deer hunters get such a bad reputation from people who purchase factory meat?

I just had a kid who is at least 100 pounds over weight, and who talks about fast food every day leave a comment on one of my deer trophy pictures saying that it is morally wrong to hunt defenseless animals. My mind is blown. I don't even purchase fast food, or meat from certain companies because of how inhumane they treat their animals, and yet here I have someone who funds animal cruelty on a massive scale telling me I am wrong for shooting a deer in an area where they are overpopulated and regularly die from starvation.

Are all non-hunters really this ignorant?

Generalization much. Just because one person thinks that way, doesn't mean everyone thinks like that. Or do all hunters think the rest of the world is just some ignorant bunch?

That's actually funny because when I was 5-6 years old I shot my first deer, but I missed and basically amputated it's leg. I remember following the blood trail, and walking up on it with my dad, and seeing the bone stick out of it's leg and listening to it make this squealing noise as my dad walked up and cut it's throat. Something about that freaked me out because Bambi was one of my favorite movies around that age.

I'm not trying to generalize, but I frequently hear people say this about hunters. This is just fresh in my mind, and the motivation for this thread as it literally just happened.

Most poeple dont hunt to feed themselves/family, from the people who ive met who hunt they seem to do it as a past time like golf or football, I personally dont know what kind of twisted person you have to be to get any satisfaction from killing shit for fun but thats my opinion on hunting for *LoLz*.

No one I know who does hunt does not eat what they kill. Most of the time you jerky a large majority of it, and a couple have the big deep floor-freezers to keep all the ground venison and chops they pull from just 2 deer. A couple of them don't buy red meat in the winter because they get 2-3 deer and that is all they need for 4-6 months.

A lot of them trade it for favors. But I'm rambling. I don't know anyone who hunts just for shooting the animal then does not use the meat. I also don't know anyone who has a mounted deer head anywhere in their residences.

    Hehe i can understand that

But if it's overpopulated in that area and it's legal to shoot them, i wouldn't care about what that kid said.
Im quite sure he doesn't know/care where his own food comes from anyway, it's easier to whine about others.

I don't have anything against deer hunters, I just don't like deer meat. People are very hypocritical, hell I am hypocritical(not to the extent of some, but still have my moments). I don't have any idea why they get bad reps, it isn't logical thus it makes no sense to me. Hunting animals for food...makes absolute perfect sense, nothing wrong with it in the slightest. Life is all a war for survival, the stronger and smarter kill and eat the weak.

Because they don't realize what over-crowding is.

Even with regular hunting I still get deers in my garbage all the damn time.

it's so over populated that I can't walk through the neighborhood or even main street at night time without seeing at least 30 deer. They come up to my window and lick it late at night and it scares me. Then I caught them eating all the bird feed out of my bird feeder, so I had to stop putting it in there. I kept wondering how it all disappeared over night, lol.

Nothing bad about hunting as long as you have respect for the animal. I just hope you are smart enough to not bring your 5 year old son to the forest. Lets aside the mental stress for the kid. But someone who is not able to hit the killzone should not hunt. As a hunter, it is your personal responsability to kill the animal as quick and painless as you can.

killing is/was necessary for food, if you do it to get the meat its ok. if you do it for sport, pride or fun its not really the same.

I am a meat eater, I think its ok to kill for meat, but killing for fur or for sport is something else entirely.
if your area is so overpopulted by deer that they have a bad influence on their enviroment, that makes it ok to fight that population. but if you have trophies in your house that implies you did it rather (or also) for fun, pride or sport, which might not sit well with some people, if they eat meat or not.

You kill because it's needed in your area? Great.
You also use the meat? Fantastic.
    You're a good person.

You kill because you get kicks out of killing a little deer with a big riffle? You're a tosser.

I think most hunters would rather kill a Big deer with a decent reliable light weight weapon suitable for hunting deer.
A massive 50 cal for hunting Prairie dogs is a waist and i kinda think its a myth. the rounds are way to expensive ~$3.00 US each.

People don't want to know where the food comes from. It seems like the kid has his mind full of propaganda.
I think most people don't bother to open there minds and fact check. just want to live in a safe little bubble world of denial.

Using a firearm at an early age is not unreasonable. I was 8 the first time i held a rifle. It was also the last time i used a rifle.
now that I'm older it has an interest for me but no practical use. Home defense.... I'll just threaten the invaders with a lap dance.
