What exactly has been overhyped in gw2?..

I mean this launch has been smoother then any mmo in the past years there are a few bugs and such but what mmo doesent during pre launch/launch. im trying to think of some points that have been overhyped

1 - gw2 being the savior of all mmorpg players = its way to early to even think that game isnt out yet you cant say that it has happened and you cant say that it wont happen im sure most of us dont care as we want a good game to play and thats all.

honestly thats all i can come up with the wow killer thing never existed it wasnt gw2's purpose

Considering it's only WoW fans/GW2 haters who consider it that...yeah, but no.

Anyone who actually read up on the game/paid attention to the game before buying it knew what the game was going to be. Unlike other games, where what you're told is a half-truth at best most of the time, or you're shown CGI videos instead of actual gameplay, what we saw and were told, even before the beta weekends, was spot-on. Yes, there are the ever-present bugs and release-day hi-jinks, but nothing that can be considered overhyped.

WoW fanboys who have nothing better to do just said 'LOL THIS TRASH WON'T KILL WoW'.
Random WoW haters said 'LOL THIS WILL KILL THAT TRASH WoW'.
GW1 players were like 'SICK GW2!'.

    And that's how it's gone.
The only people who overhyped the game were WoW haters who want to cling to anything that may make them sound so cool because they are against WoW.
    Nothing noteworthy.

Yep, I was impressed by the relative lack of hype compared to "some" titles. I am surprised by how much of what we were shown or told didn't get cut or turn into "not at launch." The fact that this was for a B2P, instead of a P2P, makes it even more impressive.

I still wonder where the haters get this massive hype theory. I hardly saw "this game is going to kill WoW" or such brainless statements. It was said to be different and it is different. I'm going to guess haters pulled that out of their ass, because well, that is what they do.

Arena Net delivered what they promised.

Anyway, if you don't already see where I'm going with this, allow me to spell it out: the only meaningful MMORPG "endgame" -- i.e., something novel to do after the progression process is over -- is that of the sandbox.

I think the hype (from some people) was that it would replace WoW in every way, but it's simply not designed to do that.

It's a very good game though. That's coming from someone who hardly followed the games development at all.

I'm sorry, WHAT? No overhype? Dude it was the most overhyped MMO ever. In every forum of the other MMO's fanboys were talking about it like it was the second coming of baby Jesus. The general chat channels were full of trolls bashing those MMO's but praising GW2 like it was a gift sent from Heaven. So don't talk to me about the game not being overhyped. I've played in in beta and EVERY single thing I like in an MMO is missing in this, and I do mean EVERYTHING. So from my point of view it's a complete fail. Time will tell how the game will do but honestly can can't see people play it more then a month after reaching lvl 80 and don't tell me it's b2p you can quit whenever you want. It's an MMO, you need people around to enjoy it.

Yep, compared to some of the crap I've heard developers from "other" games spout, the AN crew now seems downright honest by comparison. I didn't follow development that closely, never even played the first game, but everything they said would be in the game is actually in the game. Anyone got a link to some dev BS about GW2?

I wonder why you even played the beta if EVERY single thing you like in an MMO is missing in it.

I don't care about hype from fans. That's par for the course. Always has been and always will be. I'm talking about hype from the devs. You know, the ones who should actually know what they are talking about. Don't recall any dropped capital cities, or dropped classes, or pulled features. Do you?

Thing is: hype does not mean screaming around "this game will kill WoW". Hype means "OMG OMG I CAN'T WAIT, BEST GAME EVER!" and then failing to meet the expectations. That's somewhat what happened to Diablo 3.

As for me, I love the game. I love how, basically, even the overflow servers have overflow servers! Combat is awesome, gathering is awesome, cities are huge and pretty and awesome. Love the game!

It was largely unknown/unmentioned until a few months before launch. While there definitely was some hype in the month or two before launch, it was also entirely possible for people to miss it and be completely unaware. There were few if any online/tv advertisements and GW topics were generally confined to a handful of threads. As major MMO launches go, this was rather low key.

To say it was hyped more than previous MMO launches is either dishonest or you simply have a poor memory. Seriously this was NOTHING compared to SWOTR or Rift. Even Warhammer and that Conan game got far more attention for far longer.

RIFT was even worse. You couldnt go two clicks on the internet without a RIFT ad and they were blatantly in WoW's face. We're not in azeroth anymore or some other nonsense.

That's fair enough, but the fact is Anet were extremely forthcoming with what the game was, and what it wouldn't have (gear treadmill, no trinity, no raids aside world bosses etc etc). The game is extremely overhyped, but to be honest I see a lot of hype for every mmo coming out. Granted GW2 was almost laughable with it, but then GW2 has been anticipated for a good five years. Plus GW1 was pretty much mmo mar-mite - you either loved or hated it but a lot of people have a copy.

From my perspective, GW2 has everything I *would* like in an mmo. People might or might not play after lv 80. To my knowledge there's a culture around people buying an mmo a month, then moving onto the next. That's fine, providing they got their money's worth. Like it or hate it, GW2 has content and a huge world to provide that value for money. Also, play it for a month it'll still be there if those people want it.

I personally don't believe that everyone will desert the game after a month. The fact is there are people who have highly anticipated this game, love it and will keep playing it for a long time to come. It's just - to repeat what has been said countless times before - not for everyone.

Hey isn't the official launch for that game everyone is already bored with tomorrow?

Please post constructively. This is nothing more than flamebait. Infracted. -Edge

GW2 was not overhyped, it just seemed overhyped because trolls used it on forums of other MMOs for bait a little too much.
