    Girlfriend needs an upgrade

So basically I got my girlfriend Guild Wars 2, the only problem is that it's laggy (Like it would be if your gfx card wasn't up to standard) and she needs an upgrade, preferably something that's safe to use with a 350W PSU and not too bad on the heating side of things. I was thinking HD5650 but unsure about it's capabilities when it comes to running on a 350W. She just wants to play the game without FPS lag, on any graphic setting, be it low or medium.

    Any suggestions?

Edit: She has a Radeon x1500 and Intel Core 2 duo cpu e7300 @ 2.66GHz for the processor

What type of processor is she using? The game is heavily CPU dependent, and judging by the age of the 5650, you may be looking at at least a mobo/CPU upgrade as well.

Can't currently check her computer at the moment, but I'll check soon enough. If it's CPU dependant, will the graphics upgrade even be worth it?

if the pc is older than 3-4 years old go ahead and buy a new one, or atleast mobo/cpu/ram/gfx

The X1500 is extremely old, and ought to be upgraded regardless of CPU. You could get a 7750, and POSSIBLY get away with a 7770. The 7750 doesnt need a PCI-E power plug.

But we'll need to know what CPU you have to make any determination. Chances are, if it has an x1500... the CPU is likely an older LGA775 deal, which has little upgrade options.

I can run the game on max besides pixil shader shadows and AA with 25-30fps on the HD 6450 and it only cost me 40$ brand new.

    My Computer Spec Is
    Motherboard: Foxconn A74GA
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    Processor: AMD Athlon(TM) II X2 B22 Processor 2.80ghz
    RAM: 6GB DDR3 PC3-10600
Video Card: Sapphire AMD Radeon 6450 1GB DDR3
    Resolution: 1440 x 900

With Fraps it was 10fps without it i was doing 20-25 in that fight sometimes a little higher. also this video was just 2 nights ago.

Well all I really want is to have her play it without major FPS lag, it can be on low settings on GW2, I don't care. She just wants to play it.

I got confused there for a second in my initial post thinking she was using the 5650. If she's running a 7 year old system (x1500), she's going to need an entire new build, period. No way around it with such an old processor and no upgrades can make the game playable.

Depending on the processor and mobo generation it may be possible to make it playable with some small upgrades, but we'd need this information first.

Intel Core 2 duo cpu e7300 @ 2.66GHz is the processor.

Any idea whether or not she can get a graphics card that will run GW2 just fine with no fps lag on Low settings?

This is true, my laptop's T9400 handles WoW just fine with a 9600M GT. You just need a $50 graphics card and you can play WoW at minimum settings at 1680x1050.

hes wanting to run Guild Wars 2 and like i posted above the 6450HD runs it just fine. right now i have all settings maxed besides AA/Shadows/Pixel shader. and i think one other setting and i get 25-30fps and around 20-25fps when doing things like WvWvW

    1. Your performance of 25FPS with pixel shaders disabled is well below what people consider playable.
    2. Your processor is stronger than hers. They're using a Core 2 Duo from 6 years ago. Yours is from 2010~.

@OP - You need to buy or build her a new computer altogether.

I hear Apple makes some really nice girlfriends but everyone will think you're a hipster if you go out with them.

Assuming the OP's budget is tight, I recommend trying out a $50-100 graphics card first. You're going to need to buy a graphics card when you build a new computer anyways. Might as well try to see if the old processor is fine. I assume the gf is also running Windows Vista from way back in the day. If you haven't reformatted, I recommend you do so. Clearing out those background processes helps a lot.
