    New 7850/70 vs second hand 5870/570 :s

    Hey,

So I'm on the verge of buying a new GPU to replace my 4850. I was pretty set on a 7850 since it was the best card for my budget (~£150) but two friends have now offered me either a 5870 for £70 or a gtx 570 for ~£120. So now I'm again unsure of what to buy and was hoping you guys could help shed some light on weather you think it's worth me buying a second hand card.

Obviously I know I won't get a warranty with the 5870 and I think only like a year left on the 570. I currently have a second hand 4850 which I bought last year and have had no issues with it. It's just is the 7850 worth the extra money I'd be paying, since at the moment they're going for ~£160-180.

Well, off the bat the 7850 is stronger than the 5870 by a large margin, and on par with the 570. The 7870 on the other hand is stronger than all of them by a good bit.

Additionally, most warranties aren't transferable, so I would definitely just jump for at least the 7850. Second hand GPUs are always iffy due to their low lifespan. That 5870 would definitely cause concern due to the age of it.

I'd buy the new card (7850/7870), you won't get any trouble because of a transferred warranty, you won't need to worry that it was run ragged for two years, it uses considerably less power and generates less heat and can be overclocked to higher than GTX 580 (660ti in the case of the 7870) performance.
