If Guild Wars 2 had a sub fee, how long would you play it?

I hear a lot of people using the "no sub fee" argument to show how good this game is.

I feel like this argument plays a major role in people's reaction to this game, and I think it's bad, because you don't actually discuss the game itself, but its price.

So let's say you had to pay 12€ (or $ £ whatever) each month to play this game, like most of other popular MMOs.

Would you still play it? If so, how long do you think you would?

I'm in the "kinda disappointed" category, so i don't think i would play it for more than 2 or 3 months, but i'd like to hear other's opinion.

IMO (notice the O which means Opinion which means you don't have to bash me for 3 pages) i think a lot of people would not pay very long for GW2.

I'm a ex-WoW lover, i don't play it anymore, but honestly i'd rather pay every month to play MoP than GW2. I won't do it, but if i HAD to choose it would be MoP. Which is kinda lame, considering i was really expecting GW2 to fulfill every of my mmo needs for the next 2 years...

I would probably pay for a couple of months in order to reach max level and 100% the map on one character and then unsub. The game is not designed for a subscription service thankfully. This question really doesn't apply to this product. At. All.

I got a refund before the headstart was even over.

Compared to all of the other MMOs available to me, GW2 still offers a lot more at the end game. If you love MMOs, the only reason I could see to play other ones would be to raid - and that's something I never enjoyed. I love the dungeons and I'm perfectly content to farm explorable modes for cool gear and work towards legendaries. I also love being able to play with friends at any time, regardless of what they're doing.

I would, aye. How long kind of depends on many different factors - most of which are the people around me. If it was just me playing the game, I'd probably be done with it in ~4-6 months, but if the guild and more importantly my RP partner enjoys it for longer, I could certainly see it as a several-year-long game for me. Probably not quite as long as the 4-5 years I spent with WoW, but... 2-3, certainly.

Also depends hugely on the amount of new content and at which intervals it's made available, which is too early to estimate after a couple of weeks. :P

Love this game but I can't say I'd actually play it much if it had a fee. 1-2 months perhaps. It's the kind of chill game, not something I'd pay monthly for since there's no continuous content.

it sounds like you're burnt out on MMO's. It happens to everyone. Don't let that bleed in and ruin the game for you. Take a break from MMOs and come back and I can almost guarantee that you will enjoy it. I've done the same for WoW and came back and enjoy it a ton, as well as playing GW2 atm and there is so much to do that I can't even fathom how much time it will take to complete all the "content." I know you have your opinion about the game, but I have this gut feeling that most people are just burnt out on the genre.

Let me retort with a question to you, then. What is it that GW2 and WoW are missing for you now? What is one thing, that if they added, would keep you playing for more than "2 months?"

And to answer your original question, I'll be honest, I'm not sure how long I'd play with a sub, because it affects so much about the style of the game. I'd probably still play it but cancel the sub, finish content teir in MOP and then come back and play until the next teir etc. If there were a sub there also would not be as many in game limiters as there are, ie inventory and bank slots for $, as well as character slots.

There should be an option "I wouldn't buy it"!

You really can't disregard the lack of a fee for the game. It's one of the only MMO's on the market that's is arguably GOOD AND comes without a fee. It IS one of the more important factors in the success of the game regardless of it's "fair" or not.

Quite honestly, I wouldn't even be playing GW2 if there was a sub.

I would play till I was tired of the game- just like every single game ever made.

The sub fee or lack of doesn't seem relevant.

Yes, it is an important factor in the success of this game BUT do you think the lack of a fee compensate for the lack of the global quality of the game? I think yes.

Probably a month to see how the game is. I have it but got to level 8 and its just like...meh lol I'll give it more tries thats for sure but when Sept.25th rolls around, MoP and FIFA, the game will collect dust just like Diablo 3

I wouldn't of even considered buying it.

One month only. Game has too many issues for a sub fee.

Until I got bored. As I haven't gotten bored yet, I can't answer the poll.

  19. #19
Wouldn't have even started playing it. I've no desire to sub to two games at once, because I'd rather not split my attention to feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

I never would have touched GW2, had I need to pay for it. It's a good game, but I do not need to be spending more money. The only reason I am coming back to WoW is cues a friend bout me time and SWtOR is going free to play.
