Istallation problem or it this how it should be?

I haven't played WoW since July and now when I put in my MoP DVD Blizzard downloader started downloading something that has content worth of 8 GB. Shouldn't it be installing the expansion from the DVD first and patching after that? And what patch is as large as 8 GB?

Blizzard pretty well redid the entire game file with the pre expansion patch for MoP, it is not just downloading a normal patch but a largely new set of files for the existing game.
