I hate needles, too. I still donate blood sometimes, though.
Yeah. A lot of people get like that.
Next time you get any needlework done, ask the staff for a cool moist towel on the back of your neck. Ask for them to just chat with you about anything BUT the needle. Ask them to get their best stick if you're a hard stick, and not some trainee, or newbie. Also tell them where people had sucessful I.V.'s on you in the past.
Also, squeeze that stupid little stress ball. They give it to you for a reason. Blood will not flow to your arm rapidly, unless you are using it. So squeeze the thing, and it'll help the blood draw go quicker. Also provides something to distract you from the needle.
Beyond that, realise that pain is just a feeling. It can be ignored and realize it will be only a few minutes.
Good night all
"Would you please let me join your p-p-party?
I've gotten plenty of IVs and stuff, and what stress ball? I've never gotten a stress ball. The only thing I've ever been able to use as a "stress ball" is my mother's hand when ever she would have to go back to the where ever the hell I have to go with me. They would normally just put a rubber band or something like that around my arm, wipe off the area with something, and then in goes the needle.
Oh, and last time i've gotten blood drawn was like 2 years ago, so I don't know how I would react now-a-days, but probably still a bit similar.
