I liked getting Rene's story too, but it made no sense! "My wife would still be alive if I had my gun" ... but he did! Yes, it wasn't in his waistband, but it's not like he could've prevented her from being shot if he had. Heck, she was killed accidentally anyhow.
What really bugs me (besides the sanctimonious "oh remember when we could talk about stuff?" convo) is that the show takes place in Star City, not on our Earth. I'm not a gun guy; I fired rifles in summer camp as a kid but guns make me nervous so I don't own one (more concerned I'll hurt myself or my family than any theoretical intruder). But if I lived in Star City? You're damn right I'd have a gun. Shit, Star City needs an armed militia to deal with all the Happenings and Uprisings and Occurrences that happen there.
I also thought it was cute they created a "solution" without telling us what it actually did.

Haven't been as interested in Arrow ever since Deathstroke has been dealt with, too much melo-drama. I still watch it because out of all DC series this is the only one worth watching (New season is better than previous one atleast which I was very close on giving up on). Wasn't really impressed with the new people on team Arrow. But Wild Dog has become a lot more interesting over the last few episodes and I'm starting to like him. He's changing somehow. Also liked the idea of Rag Man, but he was simply not shown using his full potentional, he was extremely situational when so much more could've been done with him. Quite sad. I actually kinda laughed when Prometheus simply knocked him out a few episodes ago and not just killed him (Because that would've made more sense right?).
Ah well, S5 is better than S3&4 so far.
Yeah, the episode was pretty hamfisted in the way it dealt with the topic. Especially how every character except Oliver took one of the stereotypical talking points as their position even if didn't actually make sense for that character.
Rene - Need a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun
Curtis - People have a right to feel safe
Felicity - I don't like all the fighting about it so I'd rather ignore it
Quentin - Cops would like to see less guns on the street
Thea - It's a political landmine...don't directly address it
Dinah - People have the right to protect themselves
Oliver - i can address all these issues perfectly at the same time with a single piece of legislation that me and one of my sidekicks put together overnight.
That part was especially annoying because they introduced the councilwoman character as the 2nd amendment defender and locked her in a room to figure out the issue with Oliver...but she didn't actually have any real input into the solution. She just rubber-stamped it because the optics of refusing to do so wouldn't play well for her politically.
I appreciate what they were trying to do with the episode...but the issue is a bit too complex to solve in 42 minutes. Maybe if was presented as a subplot over the entire season it could have been handled better.

I don't like Wild Dog at all, really. Just the actor/ role, meh.
The gun control stuff was just off putting, really has no place in the setting. Hell, I'd assume Star City would HAVE a full registry for all it matters. But really, this is the city of arrows and swords and sonic death rays. Ollie mentions his parents are both dead, one from a gun suicide sure, but his mother via a sword. Heck, he even mentions the Undertaking. Death by Earthquake Machine. Also, "don't kill yourself... it's wrong... let us arrest you, put you on trial then lock you up for your next three lives", meh.
I like Canary and Ragman, but Mr Terrific needs to step up his game. Unlike Wild Dog, I like the actor and he has a good role if he's a tech guy, but a melee guy? He might as well go drive the car.

I actually love the actor who plays Rene, but he normally plays a more comical character. This is a departure for him, but I think he's doing well with it.

This episode was way to much gun control drama, felt like a NBC show. My only opinion on the matter is that when our forefathers were working on the 2nd amendment they didn't have in mind nor foresee the guns we have today when they wrote it.
It was definitely heavy-handed. Looking at your list, I can imagine the writing room having this exact list up on the white board.
It is kind of an important issue, even for these characters, considering Diggle and Wild Dog both use guns, and both kill people with them, but if you want to handle a political issue that makes no sense for these characters, do it like Civil War.
Next weeks episode doesn't make sense...Vigilante going after the Mayor over the cover up, but Vigilante aka Adrian Chase is the one who spear headed the cover up in the first place.
which way are you going here, are you saying the framers didnt expect citizens arming themselves against some perceivable threat with automatic weapons from fellow citizens or that nuclear weapons would exist and youd need that to actually form a revolution against another imperial superpower?
im not taking a stance here but if you invoke the the framers you need to understand the context in why they thought armed citizens were important if not just plain responsible, maybe disarmament needs to start at the top instead of the bottom? it seems as such if you think the constitution is worth the ink used to write it.... i dunno, flesh out your statement

i apologize sincerely if you thought i was in way attacking you.
i was only attempting to gain clarity on what you thought the framers state of mind was when they framed a right to bare arms. was it, in your understanding, a right to only have a weapon to hunt deer for food? or was it a right to equip yourself with the tools equivalent to put up some resistance to the superpower that they were fighting or preparing to fight in a declaration of succession?
logic should dictate that if you translate that context to modern standards of the latter only horribly destructive weapons in proliferation would allow such a "just" revolution to succeed again. you just cant go and form your own country today with handguns if the other guys dont play by your arbitrary rules.
it seems you might have assumed im advocating weapon rights, i assure you im not, i was attempting only to use context and logic to gain an understanding of that which you said. im actually for universal disarmament across the board but only if its across the board. and no, i dont, nor have ever had a gun

So Adrian Chase is in fact Prometheus and not Vigilante, explains why Vigil went after Oliver for the cover up when it was Adrian behind it. Wonder if this swap will be blamed on Flash Point.
Vigilante is probably some random person who we never seen yet.
I doubt that they'll blame it on anything; they just saw an opportunity to pull a fast one on people who knew the Vigilante's real name in the comics since it's only going to be a one season character.
What I can't figure out is how after all that they didn't actually capture the vigilante.

Getting strong vibes of the black ACU chief for a possible face behind Vigilante - there aren't many other candidates really.
Chase being Prometheus is dumb - he could have dismantled Oliver and made him suffer a lot more effectively than he has (if he has at all?).
I'm not really sure I get why if Chase is Prometheus he offered to sacrifice his position for Oliver. I mean is he testing him to see if he's really that bad? Because that doesn't fit with Prometheus, he seems fairly certain Oliver is bad. And as others said, how did the Vigilante get away after Curtis him in the face with the exploding orb. Curtis knew it was coming and still Vigilante was gone. Just seems bad on their part but I'm thinking the Vigilante will end up helping them fight Prometheus in the end.

Hard for me to judge, since I never really liked Prometheus. I mean, I can see someone spending years ploting revenge, but going on the Batman-training-session during those years to avenge your distant, criminal father... meh.
Same with Vigilante, his "powers" are just arbitrary plot devices, so he has no appeal for me.
"I only feel two things Gary, nothing, and nothingness."
this season started off really strong and i still enjoy it more than most others but the villain is really weak and i dont know what the long term goal of this arc was/is.
im guessing maybe this season was just meant to be a back to basics season maybe? set up all these characters and then next season actually see them do something epic?
