Question LF new GPU for mi rig.

    Hi mmo,

I´m looking for an upgrade, currently playing WoW primary at ultra settings 1080p but my fps are droping to 30-40 when flying through Pandaria, and sometimes chopping. Here is my setup:

    -i5 2500k 4.5ghz
    -Asus p8p67 evo
    -8gb gskill ddr3 1300mhz
    -sli gtx 260
    -ocz agility 3
Have read reviews and seems nvidia cards are much stronger than ati at WoW, but any inputs will be fine. I can spend 200-300E.
    Thx for all

MSI Geforce GTX 660Ti beautiful card, holds up on high end games stunningly well. Not sure what it is in Euro's but I know a lot of people who vouch for this card as great value for money.

Also you get Twin Frozr 3 with this bad boy, so the cooling system is nigh on perfect (:

I would avoid that card specifically, since MSI was found to be secretly overvolting it. Hard to tell if the bad ones are still in circulation or not.

I've always been an nVidia fan, but the recent cards for the same price range from ATI are just too good to pass up. The 7870 for probably 185e or a 7970 for the same price.

I have been looking for a new GPU, the Nvidia 660TI looks good in your price range (and mine). Lots of overclocking potential and you can always SLI later if you need the extra.

Get one with dual or triple fans to make sure it stays nice and cool.

As you say nvidia cards do seem to work better with wow, I have an old 4870 512mb and that struggles from time to time.

It's hard to say "nvidia works better" and then compare with a card thats over four years old.

So, will I notice big improve with that card or should I focus on a higher one?

Honestly, going from SLI 260s, any of those cards will be a pretty substantial increase. It just looks like the ATI cards right now are a better bang for the buck. I was planning on getting a 660TI myself in the next couple weeks, but it seems negligent for me to do so, with the prices ATI is offering.

Currently where I buy all the stuff gtx 660 and hd 7870 are at the same price point. Tomshardware reviewed their WoW´s performance, and the 660 wins over ati ones.

Was not intended to mean that. I was just saying what card i personally use.

As the OP said the research suggests that nvidia cards run better with wow. I did see a comparison chart somewhere ill have to dig it up.

Where do you buy from? If they're the same price (I can't think of why they would be), then the 660ti would be better for wow.

Just having a look at some more reviews and it seems the 7870 can be purchased just a little cheaper than the 660ti and seems to beat the 660 in most games.

    tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-660-ti-benchmark-review,3279-17.html

I suppose it would come down to personal preference.

He said 660, not 660ti. And yes, if you mainly play wow steer clear of AMD products (cpu also). 660 non-ti is the best "bargain" in the 600 line.

Is there much difference in performance between the two? I want to try out an nvidia card i have always had ATI.

Of course the 660 ti is faster but is it 70 dollars faster.....probably not. That is why i said the 660 is the best value in the 600 lineup. If you are in the market for an nvidia card and play at 1920x1080 and lower, the 660 is the card you should be buying.

Ah, I didn't realize we had switched to talking about the "660" regular, since it was all 660ti.

If you DO get the 660ti, wait at least another 3-4 weeks for the bad ones to be pushed out of circulation

Something like a 7850 or 660ti would fit you nicely.

What if I am going to be playing at 1920x1200 res?

Planning on upgrading my monitors soon.

  19. #19
660 is perfect for 1920x1200 as well. GTX 660ti/670/680 Radeon 7950 and up are all suited for 2560x1440 resolution, they are overkill for 1080p.

I'm considering the Radeon 7950 mentioned above. But like they said, for 1080p. Too much.
