do these people deserve more benefits?

Ok here is a family of obese people claiming to be too fat to work and them being fat is because of their genes(not because they are lazy and eat too much). living on government benefits, but they are claiming its not enough and want more. they claim to be only spending £50 a week on food yet eat 3000+ calories a day.

do you guys think they are just lazy and eat too much or do you think they deserve more handouts?

You don't get that fat from genes. No benefits, no money nothing to them.

Yeah what she says to that is even better.. ""All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight," she added."

Okay, so it's the genes causing price of healthy food to be high. Or not having enough money for them. Yeah. Can't really say anything to this..

Being obese is a choice. Sure, you could have a slower metabolism and "bad genes"; but if you modify your diet and routine to accommodate that, then there is no excuse to be overweight. They should receive nothing more. They chose their lifestyle, they should learn to live with it. If they don't feel life they're getting enough money, they should exercise and eat correctly and get a job.

No; but lets take a breath here and not go on another witch-hunt against welfare just because a few slobs abuse a system that helps thousands of people around the country.

its always funny when an obese person blames genetics or everybody else for their weight. Like it's McDonalds fault they can't stop eating.

They're basically just lazy. You aren't too fat to work at that weight.

"It's not my fault i'm obese" has got to be one of the worst lines ever.

Unless proven that it is a genetic/health problem that they have no control over then no I don't believe they should. They aren't incapable of working.

The family claim to spend £50 a week on food and consume 3,000 calories each a day. The recommended maximum intake is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men.
Really irked me, they claim it's genetic and then have this statement.

I dunno man, They say they get abuse in the street so probably go home and comfort eat and stuff.
Bit of a shitty existence and maybe they do need more help but looking at the pic even if they went for it diet wise they are all a year+ away from being "normal" sized I think.

Now as a family of four I do think 22k a year is shockingly low I was making more than that when I was 20 and all I had was myself to keep and without it sounding in anyway like I am better than they are my household bring in around 100k a year combined and we don't always have money coming out of our ears for things..

Oh dear... it's "them" again. This cretinous bunch are fairly infamous in the UK for their deluded ways.

    Here's 1 of them on xfactor : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjdUnVRzZjw
And the 2 sisters on xfactor again a few years later : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A--jIb_dic
Here they are lying about their diet etc : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW-L7j8E2kY

I don't care what genes you have, you can't get that fat if you are eating a regular diet even if you did no exercise... Their problem is that they eat too much AND do no exercise just like 99.9% of other fatties.

That story is over 3 years old. I'm wondering what happened to them.

Vegetables are too expensive? Sure, if you're buying fresh organic. Frozen vegetables are incredibly cheap, and arguably more nutritious than fresh.

Nope, they should get the same benefits that a skinny man should get. If I had my way I would give them 6 months then cut off their benefits unless they drop to a certain weight. Do nothing all day but sit round the house? You have time to take a brisk walk, burn that flab off.

I know families of 4 or 5 that survive on that, you just have to make sacrifices

    Oh FFs, that's pathetic.

It costs fuck all to eat healthily, buying fresh food. And they are nothing a good diet and some exercise would not solve. Take all their benefits away and they will lose weight, they are nothing but a drain on society.

The benefits system is a wonderful thing, being totally abused by these lazy ingrates.

They should get no more/no less than the standard welfare allowance for a family of that size (haha). There is actually quite a bit of scientific evidence supporting the genetic predisposition to obesity. This, when coupled with the use of BPA in so many containers, is thought to be a primary cause of the obesity epidemic in US and around world.
Check out the links below for more info on BPA and genetics:
BPA--http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisphenol_A (for just some general information)
    BPA studies--http://www.ewg.org/chemindex/chemicals/bisphenolA
    Obesity--http://www.cdc.gov/Features/Obesity/ (CDC general info)
    Obesity--http://ezinearticles.com/?Obesity-is-a-Genetic-Predisposition&id=179183

None of this info should in any way be meant to absolve the people of their complicity in their weight gain. Stop eating junk food in massive quantities and excercise more. You man not end up 'kate Moss' thin, but you certainly won't be the size of a barge balloon.

100k is not a high income. Not poor, but certainly not rich.

Depends on where you live. 100k is 6 times minimum wage. If people are expected to even live off of minimum wage, then 100k is really, really high.
