    new player confused with questing...

So I have been wandering and I dont really see quests...just lots of pop ups when I come to new areas...very confusing...can someone give me a fast run down of what I am missing?

There are no NPCs that stand around with ! over their head.
Heart shaped markers are good starting points and (no matter how many people will tell you otherwise) are basically quests that do not require you to talk to an NPC.
While doing a heart event, other dynamic events will usually spawn nearby, don't hesitate to wander off and follow them as they are usually part of a chain.
Quests in Guild Wars appear "dynamically" which basically means that you need to be in the right place at the right time to take part, though fortunately the game is usually fairly good at telling you where that place is.

look at your map. see those hearts? Those are the "quests", you just don't talk to npcs, you go in the area and do what they ask.

other stuff pop up around you, these are events, they can be npcs running around, you having to collect stuff, escort, etc, a bunch of stuff generally. You can do those. Those are like rifts in Rift.

You do both. And that's how questing works

The idea is to not let yourself caught and go from a heart to another not doing anything else, you need to wander around and go to events when you see them around you.

In fact, the only traditional quests are the ones that send you from one point of your personal quest to another.

Do note that the Dynamic Events make up the majority of the "questing" content. There are 301 Hearts in the game while there is over 1500 dynamic events.

The events are important, as you advance through the levels the chains get longer, they lead into meta events, dragon bosses, mini-dungeons and such.

Also, you'll sometimes see people with orange circles with a star mark over thier heads. Those people can start dynamic event chains if you talk to them. Sometimes characters run up to you asking for help, those are also dynamic event chains. After any dynamic event ends, wait around and listen to what the NPC's are saying. That can also lead you to the follow up quests in the dynamic events. Here's a good video on that...

There are no actual quests in the traditional sense. There are static heart events. Entire PVE of the game is based around Dynamic Events.

Should really read up on the game: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...tiated-READ-ME!

Yes, all quests are telepathically spread to everyone in the vicinity, unlike in other mmos you dont know why you're killing X or collecting Y you just know you have to, still doesnt make questing any more mundane for me, others disagree. If you're interested in lore, find the right person to talk to and he might just tell you why he cant farm his own plants.

You just need to keep your eyes and ears open and pay attention to what is going on in the world around you. If you do that then you will know why you have to do things, and will be presented with all the background lore related to it.

GW2 really does reward those people that take it more slowly and play it as a proper rpg, providing an amazing amount of immersion. Whereas if you have the more common 'rush' mentality then you are going to miss out on most of the content. Still that's your own fault, and maybe you shouldn't be playing mmorpg's.
