    Natural Disasters in Europe?

What kinds of natural disasters happen in Europe? Is it just mainly the weather, like very cold winters and unusually hot summers?

What kinds of natural disasters have you been through (assuming you live in Europe)?

I feel bad for all those poor people on the East Coast of the United States with hurricane Sandy hitting them. My heart goes out to them.

Europe is a pretty timid area in the world. Though, there was a heavy earthquake in northern Italy this summer.

Other disasters I could think of would be mud slides or the snowy equivalent near the alps...

Denmark: We had some strong winds like 10 ish years ago, that's about all I remember. Sometimes there's minor flooding, and very rarely you see major flooding (houses etc. having water to the roof almost) But that only happens at or close to the coast, really. I've never been through a natural disaster myself. Never even felt an earthquake either.

Nothing in Holland tbh. Very, very occasionally the wind gets kinda annoying and you might lose a few roof tiles, 3 trees fall down in the whole country. Oh and we had a 4.something earthquake, ehm, 5 years ago? I think?

Edit: and maybe a few inches of water if you live stupidly close to certain rivers that might flood every now and then.

The worst I can think of that I have experienced is some strong winds that managed to blow a carport away. And then 2 winters that managed to make some seriously awesome snow mounds.

Nothing serious has happened in Portulga since 1755.

I don't know about the other countries in Europe, but I think Europe doesn't have many disasters like America has.

When did we ever have flooding having water to the roof of houses...? At most its just a flooded basement and occasionally knee high on the ground level. The main highway leading into Copenhagen will get submerged pretty often though (maybe once or twice a year) though you can just drive around it with no extra time had it not been for the fewer amount of lanes.

Also iirc most hurricans will move westward so...

Also Denmark has the added feature of having the UK as a meat shield

As for earthquakes - ive never experienced one. Every time i hear about one happening it seems ive slept through it

I want to see a tornado...

I think Europe has a secret weather machine that sends bad weather towards the Americas.

There's usually a volcanic eruption every 1-2 years where I live and frequent minor earthquakes and infrequent major(like 7-9 Richter), snows can become bad in the winter but we're very well prepared for that.

One of the bonuses of paying a fee to the EU is that all natural disasters are diverted *elsewhere*

But at least I can casually play Classic and remember when MMORPGs were good.

Same as the rest of the world.

Storms, volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides, mudslides, tsunamis, tornados to name but a few.

Europe has more or less won the geographical lottery. Apart from minor earthquakes we only really have strong rain and wind.

Smaller hurricanes and flooding because of snow melting is what I can think of in Norway. Ground slipping because of heavy rain can also be a problem(taking houses and roads with it).

    L'Aquila would disagree.

But generally speaking, we're quite safe here, that's true.

In The Netherlands: Mainly just storms in which tree's get blown over and stuff. Sometimes we get some flooding due to heavy rainfall but that's about it really. I suppose they can be classified as tropical storms or something but meh.

Don't forget the town-destroying fjord tsunami's that occur every once in a blue moon!
