But your question was "why add a trading card game". And not "why add a TCG where you collect pets."
But even if it was about collecting pets, even if it was based on the pet battles in WoW, the TCG could still be different from the actual pet battles. Just like the Pokemon videogames are different from the Pokemon TCG. Why? Different ruleset and completely different principle.
In pet battles (Pokemon) you're collecting pets and leveliing them up. You put together a team of 3 (or 6 in Pokemon), each pet can have certain abilities and a limited number of those abilities active. You can go around and discover and catch new pets.
A TCG is played with cards. There's a large amount of cards, and each deck has a large number of cards in it, probably around 40 or so. You don't just walk around with 3 cards. Cards are most likely bought off of vendors. You don't find them lying around in Elwynn forest ready to be caught with a basket. You can't level them up. And the whole playstyle is different.
Yes, pazaak is a good answer to my question how would this new game would differ enough from pet battles. My point was that most of the ops suggestions do not differ enough from pet battles.
Take the example below your post:This is almost exactly the same as the existing pet battles. Monster/mob/character = pet. Special powers = pet abilites. Augmented = new abilites your pets get as they level. 5.1 even has old raids drop new pets. The only real difference between his suggestion and pet battles is the kara like chess board.would like a sort of Yu-Gi-Oh style. Place a monster/mob/character, whatever they call it. It has special powers, and can be augmented with a type of weapon/attachment. Attack the other person's mobs, and if they have none, or you do extra dmg, you attack them directly. Health is gone, they're defeated, you win. It's a simple set up that allows for a lot of strategy.

the WoW TCG. this way people could play the WoW TCG while playing WoW
Warlorcs of Draenorc made me quit. You can't have my stuff.
And yet you still said exactly this
As to your question how a new strategy mini game would differ from the already existing one (pet battles) - I answered that question in length. I can summarize, though. Simply by being different.
Are you suggesting that all strategy games are always the same? If they would add the WoW TCG for example, all you would have to do to answer your own question is to look at the WoW TCG and the pet battles and see that they're completely different things.
i know its hard, but read the rest of my post pls...
Simply by being different does not answer HOW it is different. "But Yes, pazaak is a good answer to my question how would this new game would differ enough from pet battles. None of them seem even close to pet battles. Even TCGs like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are a completely different thing than the actual Pokemon videogame or pet battles. I don't know all of these TCGs but I just assume that you don't fight with 3 (or 6) trading cards and level them up? Because that's what you do in Pokemon and pet battles.
But is this really necessary? It'd be as if Nintendo started randomly adding Pinball machines to Metroid games. It's just like...what's the point? Why is this here? I don't see why WoW needs "card games and board games" within the game. If I want to go play a card game, I'll go play a card game, not play WoW and then play a card game within WoW.
Would love to see it modeled after magic or the wow tcg, would be a nice addition.
All the people saying it's a dumb idea and that blizzard would never do it really aren't very bright, it's the kind of idea i could easily see blizzard doing as they could tie it in with the Real world counterpart and sell virtual booster packs etc. OP you should share this idea on the forums maybe a dev will see it as i think it is a great idea.

I`d LOVE a TCG in WoW. I'd like a Magic, the gathering one, but that YGO game wouldn't be too shabby, either
As a long time WoW player, I like playing WoW. My toons are there, my friends are there. Some friends say "come play this game" and some go to other games. I don't want to pay for two games, I don't want to leave WoW. I wouldn't know which is the best to go to.
I thought before, "If they made a pokemon MMO, I'd like to play that." Then WoW gave it me, I can play that game, and I can play WoW. Blizzard doesn't want people leaving to go to other games, so they're starting to come up with ways to keep people paying their monthly sub, but giving them more of what they want.
It's good for Blizzard, and if they don't require it (no buying VP gear until you're rank 5 in the TCG), then it doesn't bother people who want nothing to do with it.
It just adds more variety to the game, it allows people to combine interests, and it gives more depth to the world.
