    Teachers

We all have had teachers at some point and it's one of the few parts of society we all experience in depth.

So naturally everyone has an opinion on them! I'd love to get a quick look at what people think of teachers in general.

Edit: Let's say from ages 12-18? Probably the best range to look at here.

    It varies.

In Sweden I get the general impression that the vast majority of teachers became teachers because they fucked up high school, started to study as teachers in university because that's one of the few entertaining jobs you can get with low ass grades, then they start working and become major assholes. That's the impression I get by my semi-alcoholist social studies teacher.

Either that, or they just became teachers because they think it's fun to educate, like my physics teacher.

seriously fuck my social studies teacher, fucking bitch

I held the majority of my teachers in high regard. We had the occasional bad / crazy ones, but for the most part they knew what they were talking about and did their job well.

secondary school- teachers that are likely going to go on a murderous rampage and kill their students
college- interesting people, don't stress out too much just like to teach, can have fun
uni- pompous, focused on one area making them rather dull, unable to share opinions due to fear of offending students that pay a fee.

Most of them from my experience sucked at their job and did it as a job, not because they wanted to teach. Then again, my "high school" was pretty bad. There were a few who did though, specifically our science teacher, who everyone liked and respected.

We had teachers who either couldn't control the class (and so the pupils took advantage and did nothing), or teachers who you simply couldn't understand because they were foreign and didn't quite get the English language - their accents didn't help either.

Teachers up to high school were all generally nice trying to teach you some stuff that the country required you too. It's not really fair to judge them, they were dealing with kids.

College teachers, oh man. That'd be interesting. The stories I could tell lol.

I had an amazing science teacher in school. every couple of months, usually before a holiday he would not follow the curriculum but instead would set up some weird ass experiment that would result in the classroom filling with colored smoke, or stinking the entire block out. I actually learned more in those classes than I did any others as they were showing a fun side of science.

For clarification College/University "teachers" are not teachers. They have no teaching qualification per se. They're not legally permitted to teach in a public school.

    What a biased poll......

Some teachers are good. Some not. Period. Not much else to say.

And technology should replace them? Seriously? Like....seriously? Even a bad teacher is better than technology, because education (especially from age 12-18, which was the bracket you used) is not only about learning useless shit that you probably won't remember in a few years, but about learning social skills

Lol I guess I kind of get your question based on your poll options but each of those options seems to be about a different thing. It'd be like saying:

    "Do you like Apples?
    A) I sure love red.
    B) No way their shape is too weird.
    C) Oranges are where it's at."

See how those options are weird?

Oh my, an opinion poll that includes bias?! One might even expect that you have a subjective opinion =0!!

And there is a massive debate right now about how the role of the teacher will change over the next ten years. With the use of programs we already evaluate a child's ability to read and comprehend, perform basic mathematics and differentiate complex systems. So yes, the traditional role of the teacher is greatly in question.

I had amazing teachers through out school.

I have a high regard towards teachers because of their job. It's a hard one, not everyone can do it especially when it comes down to trying and teach children.

I remember having a bad teacher though, in first grade, she was a nun and that didn't help a lot because she really didn't know how to teach, she never took a teaching course and was pretty much biased on who she thought was good and deserved to be taught, asides from this particular case every other teacher I had was simply amazing and very enjoyable to learn from.

That's why there's an option saying "Other" which can range from every, possible, experience with teachers out there, so there's really no point in judging the poll.

You just had to say that lol.

Uhhh I don't think teachers will get replaced. As of now, anyone can just go to google and find out any information they want, but they need a structured system and guidance that a computer won't teach them.

I do see technology becoming more and more incorporated into the education process...But that's entirely different from teachers getting replaced.

Being in "the biz" I choose #1. Teachers are extremely restricted by the system, budgets, test scores and such, but I can't see how anyone could argue that we don't need them.

Teachers are people. Some of them suck, some of them rock, some of them are so-so. Teachers are no exception.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

Teachers are human, despite what one might be inclined to think while at school-going age, and, as such, I think there are varieties in the levels of competency and enthusiasm from person to person. Just like in any other job really. I had some amazing teachers, who helped to shape who I am today, and I had some really shite teachers too, who were so nasty and jaded that you really had to wonder why they were still bothering at all.

I think teachers are still a vital part of the education system and it is important for kids to interact with authority figures and non-familial adults. It helps build an understanding of typically expected social etiquette from an early age and being shown how to do things by another human being, when they are able to teach properly, I feel makes way more impact than a computer program or w/e ever could.

So what's your opinion in general on the topic? Do you think that it could be improved? How would you go about doing such a thing?
