I don't think the Argentinian government quite understands that if the Falklanders wanted to be Argentinian then they would be. There's no lease on the islands like Hong Kong, and the islanders aren't demanding to be Argentinian or even independent. Though going independent would just result in them getting invaded by Argentina the second the British military personnel left the islands. But since they do want to be British (which will be proven with the referendum), then we're not going to force them to be Argentinian, and we are going to defend those islands.
