Nintendo DS.
If you think about getting it, get a Nintendo DS 3D because the new generation, including the new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, will likely be only for that.

Like I said, there's weird ones in all of them.
I admit 5th had probably the most of all, but the games themselves are really good and B&W2 are, like I said, arguably the best games they have out.
More to do, more fights, higher level trainers and if you use Memory Link it's even more story to it.

There are always exceptions. Most of the newer ones I saw looked either unoriginal, ugly or plainly weird. :/

The rubbish and ice cream ones are a bit stupid but the others are mostly good

I mean, it's not that tough of a gym if you've ever played a pokemon game, but for someone who has just started out, it will wipe the floor with you. His top pokemon has a move that pumps both his attack and special attack, and you can't keep his stats down, lest he just switch to tackling you and knocking out maybe one or two Pokemon before you bring him down.

My advice. Bring a sheep.

Can it play GBA games?

Unfortunately, no. They only make the systems backwards compatible one version. So it plays DS and 3DS games only. But I would not be surprised if they start adding older GameBoy games to the Nintendo Store.

I never finished a fifth gen game so I can't really rank that one but I would agree with that.

Second gen was definitely my favorite.
