Well their are techniques that aren't just primal instincts.

There's plenty of techniques to take down a gun too, really. Someone just has to have the time/ability to do so. If you don't see a guy coming and he wants you dead, it doesn't really matter if he's got a knife or gun. From there though, situations get bogged down in the details of what is actually occuring and there's just no predicting. Not that a gun isn't more efficient, but that goes both ways. I wouldn't recommend a cop keeps his gun holstered when the criminal "only has a knife".

Where do you come up with this stuff? Without a lot of training, you aren't defending yourself in either situation. Even a drugged out hobo with a sharpened piece of sheet metal could stab you in the stomach and leave you to die on the sidewalk before you even had a chance to react.

People don't walk around at 100% alertness and ready to engage and kill anyone within arms reach. This entire line of arguing is just ludicrous. Knives are just as deadly as firearms when discussing ability to kill. The only thing a gun does is force multiply, which only effects mass killings, which are already established as rare enough as to be statistically insignificant.

It's a proven fact knives, when used by laymen, are less lethal than firearms. You'll have to grasp harder.

Of course you can't. But you have a helluva better shot of defending yourself against a knife than someone shooting at you, especially in confined spaces.

Duh, but they aren't required for survival.

In which situation would you rather find yourself in? A knife against knife or gun against gun? Now realise that many home invasions are committed by more than one person.

With a gun, your odds are not good, but with knife your odds are pretty much non-existent

you actually have a much better chance at stopping someone with a gun as both attacks normally happen in very close range. You try to fight a guy with a knife, you are going to get cut. Even those cops couldnt draw fast enough...but id still rather have a gun than a nothing.

Ask any cop about the 21 foot rule.

TBH I don't think I could afford to shoot a full auto. Maybe something in 5.45x39, or .22lr.

shit, just get a slidefire or learn to bump fire. Its a free way to figure out theres no good reason to waste all that ammo lol.

Except, fights don't happen in a vacuum. Police and military professionals have used the 21 foot rule for a long time. A lot of them say within 6 feet, you're better off with a knife instead of a gun.

Good for us. 1993 was dark times in terms of crime rates in the US. Lots of the big cities have cleaned up considerably since then, though Chicago, LA, and DC still have a long way to go.

I wish more people took some basic self defense classes. I used to think that it would be easy to just disarm some guy and take away his gun/knife, but, it's really not. Spending 2-3 hours going through exercises that go like "*whistle* one thousand one, one thousand two, your dead" is pretty eye opening.

I remember early ITT Fused would spout "muh chilluns" arguments and talk about being logical in the same breath until I linked him the appeal to emotion wiki page. Same thing with "Obama says they're assault rifles so I agree with him" and the appeal to authority page.

Oh, I know. Fused is probably the worst offender here as far as logical fallacies goes.
