Are classes still full of ability bloat?

Reinstalling the game now but just wondering if classes are still watered down with ability bloat like they used to be? My Sentinel already had 2 full hotbars and was only 29 and I actually used almost all of the stuff I had bound. Have they streamlined the classes in any recent patches where you dont need to be an octopus to actually play the game while using every hotbar possible and your entire keyboard bound to something? I just dont find that kind of playstyle very fun. I mean this is a game right? Games are meant to be relaxing and enjoyable and having to use 25+ keybinds is NOT enjoyable. What classes dont require a ton of keybinds, even in PvP, and can still get the job done? Been thinking about making maybe a sniper or operative.

There has not been a significant effort to consolidate abilities for any class since launch, if that's what you're asking.

I think Sentinel is one of the worst offenders. I manage just fine with one bar for primary abilities (main focus spenders), one bar for secondary and situational stuff, and a 3rd bar for buffs and long cooldowns, leaving me an entire bar for dumb stuff like mounts and legacy abilities/emotes. I like having lots of tools at my disposal. You should not need 25 keybinds for any class.
^ The above should be taken with two grains of salt and a fistful of "chill the F* out".

Sniper is a good choice to avoid ability bloat. They can get by with a handful of offensive abilities and a few defensive ones. Getting fancy requires more of course.

Play a Powertech BH DPS. Pyrotech tree. If I remember correctly, your rotation only has 5 mandatory abilities. Rail Shot, Flame Burst, Incendiary Missile, Rocket Punch, and regular shooting for heat management. Considering 3 of those abilities have CDs, I found myself spamming just two buttons the majority of the time. Pretty simple rotation.

Yeah, but then since he said in PvP...now you have a ton of other stuff. Grapple, possibly your charge, the stun, defensive cooldowns, etc, etc. There's really no class in this game where you can have a neat snippet of abilities and play to max capabilities. 2 action bars is enough for every class though to have a solid setup of abilities for all situations. As long as you have your buffs and whatnot off of the keybinds, you should be fine.

Just make one bar 1 through = and the next bar Shift+1 through Shift+=

Yes. Operatives(Scoundrels) and SithWarrior/JediKnight are terrible.

For operative at least I have some categories of my abilites. On my Juggernaut it's jut plain WTF-y why they choose this system. You have 3 attacks alone that just work under certain conditions.
Especially if you plan to PVP you need so many keybinds, it's staggering.

Arena and BG players in WoW bitch about not having enough action bars for all of their macros and abilities. And this guy thinks TOR has ability bloat? PvP forces you to use a multitude of abilities beyond just doing damage. Almost any hotkey based game is going to demand you have 25+ keybindings for serious PvP.

Well the reason they need so many is because the game supports macros. SWTOR doesn't and probably never will so I don't see how you would run out of keybinds.

It sounds like the OP should be headed to GW2 to be honest.

Agreed. I'm just pointing out that hardcore PvP players bitch about not having more than 72 keybinds. To them, 25 would be laughable.

yeah..likewise they would probably laugh at someone saying they want little to no keybinds in order to do well in PvP.

I am also thinking about returning. If I remember the Trooper/BH had less stuff to mash even in PvP. I also think the Sage/Inquisitor are easy to play as well. The DoT version of both classes only uses a 4 button rotation and 1 CD and your only AoE is built into your rotation so pretty easy to play. My Assassin on the other hand had a ton of stuff to use. Even in PvE I found myself using 2 full hotbars in every encounter. Also I found GW2 to be the other extreme where you only used 2-3 buttons even in PvP. But then again I played an Engineer and used grenade kit for WvW and just threw those all day long. As long as you are having fun it doesnt matter if you use less buttons. Just ignore your defensives and go glass cannon.

My Sith Warrior (Juggernaut) has on it's first bar:

    1 rage builder with cooldown
2 small rage builder without cooldown (only used when rage is needed and number 1 is on cooldown)
3, 4 rage using attacks both on short cooldown (5 or 6 secs)
5 a 3 sec channel spel with a semi long cooldown (24 sec or something) but can be reseted by using attack 3 and 4
6 Force scream a cheap attack that will always crit because of 3 and 4
    7 Force charge (mobility)
8 Force push (small rage free damage but resets mobility)
    9 saber throw (ranged attack)
10 a aeo attack with cooldown but doesn't cost rage so easy to use
    11 a cheap execute ability

This is my first bar and I am not including situational ability's (interrupts, taunt, stuns or attacks that can be used against weak/normal mobs)

Honestly Bioware should remove the 2 rage builders and remove the execute ability (put it into a talent) and maybe remove one of the main rage using attacks or the channel melee attack. Removing the weak rage builder may even help the rotation a little since currently I sometimes have issues where I don't have enough rage to and my main rage builder still is on cooldown for 1 sec.

Finally one of the reasons why their is so much bloat is because people expect Warriors to have ability's like Force throw, Force Choke and Force Charge and my guess is most classes share this problem.

    Unload? Heat Seeker Missile? Railshot?

Mobs usually die with just Tracer, so why bother? You need Tracer/a DoT for Rail Shot, you need the mob to be up for the whole duration of Unload to be able to use it without jerking your arms ineffectually for several seconds afterward, and 5 stacks of the debuff Tracer does improves your Heatseeker by 25%, so it feels like a waste to use it without.

I just spam tracer unless it's a boss. Then I amaze people by moving out of fire and dpsing adds while running my full rotation.

I beg to differ...haha... Try this I know it's Vanguard but Vanguard/Powertech all the same to me.

On a slightly more serious note I use the modifers as well, I have the set up
    Bar 1 - 1 through =
    Bar 2 - Shift 1 through Shift =
    Bar 3 - Ctrl 1 through Ctrl =
Bar 4 - Shift Ctrl 1 through Shift Ctrl =
You really don't need to bind more than 4 bars

Why the hell would you play like that? This is a game and games are supposed to be fun, relaxing, and enjoyable. Having to know where 72 keybinds were and then use them all at the right time isnt relaxing or fun its work.
