In my country, gaming ads are extremely rare, the lasts ones i recall were from nintendo 64, maybe from gamecube when it was released oh... and right now a generic ps3-ps vita ad that's extremely bland and shows no games whatsoever... so actually games in here benefit from the word of mouth, that's how all my friends got to know GTA/DotA/LoL/WoW/Tibia (to quote some "successfull" games in here)
Internet ads do count as ads. Unless they are region based or something.
I'm not saying word of mouth is dead, just less.
