First off, and this isn't a flame, but of all the thing you could have sold, why the rented TV's?

And why not just buy 2 cheap tv's instead and save money in the long run.

Second off, yes, you can be take to court and trialed. Only thing you can do is get them the tv's, which from what I understand will cost 3K out of your pocket... Sorry buddy...

My advice, get the paperwork you got when you rented the TVs. If it states that your are responsible for the cost of the TVs should you be unable to return them, then they cannot refuse payment. Hold them to that.

Don't sell things you don't own?

Get a lawyer and saddle up. Your life's about to suck.

The internet is not the place to go when you need to be talking to an attorney.

In my opinion it is completely your fault and you should be punished for your actions.

First off step back and take a deep breath. Ok now that you are calmed down some, lets look at what has happened. You rented 2 tvs from a rent-to-own center. The premise of that is that you make payments until you pay the set amount and then you own the tvs. Use this as an example. John goes to the car lot to buy a car. John has to pay on the car for four years. After two years John understands that he can not make the payment anymore. So John sells the car to Bob. Bob pays John the amount that is still owed for the car. John then goes to the bank and says here is the money I owe you for the car. The bank CAN'T then say no we don't want your money, we want the car. Also here is something else i found that may make you feel better:

i worked for rent a center and i know first hand of their bullying scare tactics and over all shiester buisness practices. let me put your mind to ease if you are being harrassed for non payment of your items
    1) if you fail to pay they can not come to your home and demand payment.
2)they can not enter your home and seize the items.
3)they can not wait outside your residance to confront you about payment.
4)they can not call your referances and enquire about you for non payment
    5) you are not required to give them the items back.
6)they must stay away from you and your home and freinds. if they want the items back by law they are to leave you alone and file a small claims action for the items. this process can take up to 6 months or more. in the mean time the items depriciate in value. you do not have to attend the small claims hearing. what will happen is the judge will dissmiss their case against you and inform them that like a credit card this is a credit issue and they need to put it against your credit rateing. if they are doing any of the things i mentioned in 1-5 you can call the police and tell them they are harrasing you and/or scareing you your family and freinds. also, BIG NO NO RENT A CENTER CAN NOT CALL YOUR WORK FOR YOUR NON PAYMENT!

So i dont have the items to return to them and they now wont accept any form of payment and only want the tv's. They are threatening me with criminal charged and getting arrested and it being a Felony... This just ruined my xmas and now im worried ALOT. im wondering if i can go to jail, or what can i do to fix this mess....ugghhh

K so why would you rent 2 TV's in the first place? unless you sold one prior to getting the 2nd, which then i would say you deserve the shit your in. But i really do have to wonder at what point did selling the things you dont own seem like a good idea, i understand grief makes you do dumb shit, but somewhere inside you gotta know what you were doing was going to land you in hot water.

Dont get me wrong i am sorry that the reason for this, your mothers passing is terrible. And you have my sympathy, But the brightest thing is to plead your case to the..............

Nah you got me, you rented 2 X 1500 dollar TV's, not one, but 2, so one for each eye? and then sold them, i can almost say without a doubt that this isnt the first time you have done it or something like it, just now somebody wants the 3k... so time to "man up" and cop it on the chin.

You make a poor decision, though I don't think you'll get screwed over too hard. I'm just wondering why they didn't seem to believe that you broke them in a moving accident and are going to pay for them when you can, but it might take awhile because you were poor enough to have to rent a TV in the first place.

why exactly did you sell something you DON'T OWN.

Trust me, i know what i did was wrong, but it was Not my intentions to get laid off, i was paying all the time right up until i got laid off!!..... I even tried seeing if they would cut me a break and pay late and they wouldnt budge, Im 1200$ in the rear with them and they say they wont take anything but the tv's. I think i may try and borrow the 1200$ and see if they take it. I just dont want to be arrested and have to deal with that whole stressful process. What a stupid decision i made

If that was me I would have faked a burglary and filed a police report, but since you havent done that its too late now. Time to pay for your crimes.

and now you would also be in trouble for fraud possibly insurance fraud if its insured. because committing another crime will totally make the first crime go away.
