It is, but its also a simple observation that due to this trend - computer replacements are not as necessary as they used to be.
Also ties in hand with that we've caught up and significantly exceeded the requirements of standard media, standard workflows, and its progression - which in the past required significant amounts of the available resources (and hardware accelerated NICs and Sound 'Cards' had more merit).
I'd still overclock though if theres any benefit to be gained - by the time it would break from shortened lifespans, an at-the-time low-budget processor would be capable of matching and likely exceeding it.
