I don't think they have that in India, but the stuff they did is so horrific that I don't think a straight up murder charge would fail.

Honest question, are you just angry over the $5.00, or genuinely disturbed?

That kind of execution system is long in place in Europe. And it actually proves to be effective and successful.
It is in no relation to the suspicion that it would encourage crime to happen, because the criminals know that they are treated very well. That's simply not the case. Decades of humanitarian punishment stats available in multiple countries speak for themselves.
Many countries also long use non-confinement within the range of punishment. A criminal shows the will and behavior for re-integration into the society, then they get to work outside just like everyone else, and return to the prison at night, just like their co workers go home. They get paid just as much as the others do... Difference tho, they don't get the money in full. Just a fraction per day, maybe a Euro per hour. The rest goes into the system. As for your case. One day work would easily make up for 1 year (60 bucks) watching telemundo.

Seems entirely out of the question. There is no single or set of genes responsible for criminal behaviour. Criminal commit crimes due a myriad of reasons and how they interact with normal human nature.

On the other hand we might be able to turn of psychopathy though. Maybe. Perhaps.

that's because of the lengthy appeals process and the use of lethal injection which is expensive. a bullet does not cost much. also why should these guys be allowed to walk? seriously? unless they are proven innocent. but from the looks of it they are anything but.

Why would we stop there though? Why not programme people to vote certain ways, buy certain products or be more susceptible to certain concepts? I'm not a conspiracy nut, but what is to stop companies who perform these functions from secretly inplanting code into the persons DNA that makes them want more Coca-cola after a deal?

seeing the amenities given to criminals in prisons i doubt this would be considered painful. game consoles? internet? they aren't there to enjoy themselves.

True, but without wanting to open a plethora of arguments, scientists did find the gene within Rats DNA that made them homosexual. Many people would argue that being Homosexual is more complicated then a few genes, but the success rat of homosexuality in the rats was 100%. If we put the time and effort into it, we could easily programme people to not get angry, upset and lash out.

There are many factors as you said, but we would simply code the human to not take those factors personally onboard.

Ive always felt that the dealth penalty was just to damn easy.

Id put them on a chain-gang and work them from dawn to dusk everyday for the rest of their lives doing menial labour.

Crushing rocks to make cravel for roads, laying tar, hand digging tunels...etc. etc.

    Every. Fucking. Day.

    Rapists would be chemically castrated.

The request was only for speed, not pain.

This is also in India, I really doubt they even have clean water in jail.

I think they should be punished in the same way of their crime. The guys that did this, should be gang raped by a group of men and battered with iron poles then thrown of a bus.

    See how they like it.

But that was my point. they will not be charged with manslaughter because the death occurred as a result of a felony crime, they will be charged with first-degree murder.

It is like if a person robs a bank and their intent and plans were only to rob a bank. Even if their written plans involve tieing up all the guards and customers and not hurting anyone.. if during the course of the felony, one of the guards gets free and the bank robber shoots them.. that robber cannot say ´it wasn´t planned, it should be 3rd degree or manslaughter´.. The very fact that the death occurred during a felony takes away that defense. It is first degree murder by virtue of the felony.

As an aside, it is one of the reasons drunk driving in most states is a misdemeanor crime and not a felony. There are a lot of people very hestitent to make deaths caused by drunk driving into first-degree murder. If drunk driving is a misdemeanor, then deaths caused by drunk driving are manslaughter. If drunk driving is a felony, then deaths caused by drunk driving are first degree murder.

My point is that these guys will get the full first degree murder penalty EVEN if they keep saying they never intended to murder her, because that doesn´t matter.

Who said anything about that it is enjoyable to be in prison? have you been there? have you ever talked to a former inmate?
I have. and life in prison isn't fun. Even with those luxury attributes every inmate has to earn in the first place to enjoy them.
After all, they are locked up. They can't just go where they want to go. They are, no matter what their surrounding looks like, restrained.

Seems like some people in here, and in general, are horribly misguided from something they've heard or read about somewhere once.
Fact of the matter however is, that every inmate starts out the very same. With NOTHING. Zero benefits. Those have to be earned. They are an encouragement to change. TV's have always been in the recreational areas, that's nothing new at all. In many countries they even have to be there.. There are in fact countries where the right to information is a constitutional right, and therefore a TV must be present.

I really wish people would inform themselves better on a broad range, before they jump to conclusions that are taken out of context.

I'd be weary of people who's job is raping inmates.

I don't know who argued that, but there's a difference though. Homosexuals are born that way. Most humans aren't born to want to commit crimes, which is after all defined by socialisation. That's why I think we might be able to stop people who are born criminals (i.e. psychopaths), but otherwise, it doesn't seem likely to ever happen.

If we put the time and effort into it, we could easily programme people to not get angry, upset and lash out.
That... seems too much of a Brave New World to me. Doesn't seem like a very good or workable idea even if it is possible. And If the novel is anything to go by it'll be absolutely horrible

That's a job taken up by the other inmates.
There are 2 kinds of crimes which fall under the "honor amongst thieves" code..... Child abuse, and Gang Rape, like this very case..
In such cases the correction officers job is more about protecting those criminals who committed these crimes, than punishing them.
They are subject to punishment from the other inmates.
