Moreover, the High elves would be like "Oh hey, we were here all along!"
That, and I know Blizzard wouldn't redo northern Lordaeron. They spent a good deal of time ensuring that Alliance players had no presence in Northwest Eastern Kingdoms; I don't see them going back on that anytime soon. Sure, it'd be the perfect reason to merge the worgen and "high elf" starting zones, reintroduce the Alliance to Hillsbrad, and create a direct leveling flow to Arathi Highlands, Hinterlands, and then the plaguelands, but that would imply that the forsaken would have to lose something, and that's just unacceptable by blizzard's standards.
“Do not lose time on daily trivialities. Do not dwell on petty detail. For all of these things melt away and drift apart within the obscure traffic of time. Live well and live broadly. You are alive and living now. Now is the envy of all of the dead.” ~ Emily3, World of Tomorrow
Words to live by.
They could roll it like the Worgen/Goblins, making them begin in that unused area and make up something about magic protecting it's borders, I believe Northem posted something about the Greenwood area in another thread, and while it was pretty much only fanfiction it did sound plausible in my mind. Making up stuff time: Being surrounded by Scarlet Monastrary in Tirisfal, Stratholme in EPL and Deatholme (?) in Ghostlands could be the reason no one's bothered them up until now, but with the Scarlet leaders gone, Tirion and co in EPL and the Forsaken advancing through Lordaeron the High Elves can no longer remain hidden. They can't fight off the Forsaken and they won't go to the Blood Elves for assistance, leaving them no choice but to turn south, using what boats/ships they have to flee down to Khaz Modan. Ultimately this could lead to bolstering up the Alliance army and them reclaiming Arathi. This would lead to new places for the Forsaken to attack (Greenwood), getting more undead troops into Hillsbrad and the Alliance finally getting back Arathi. Win-win!
Just made this up on the spot so it could be complete horseshit.

I actually like that idea, A nation of Elfs hell bent on the deaths of all who oppose them.
I would rather it not be the High Elf though, I would prefer it to be more of a mountain elf brawler type.
For the High Elf it just seems like more or less a repeat of the Kael storyline,
But see, you are already moralizing the situation with "hell bent on the deaths of all who oppose them" you are presenting a clearly villanous view, and them not being high elves denies the whole moral conflict shebang.
Neither blood elves or high elves are good; they have different view on what's acceptable and what compromises are necessary in order to suvive, and that has left them on opposites sides of a bloody war. I want to see that fight, where they face their morals and their beliefs; one backed up by the horde, other by the alliance. I want to see a war of brother against brother tainted by resentments and condemnation that escalates more horribly which each battle.
How does it end? annihilation of one side? assimilation? armistice? reunification? the possibilities for a high/blood elven conflict are just wondrous.
So following Kael'Thas = race change? What about Blood Elves that joined Horde and didnt follow Kael'thas? They even helped to kill him (twice lol). All High Elves were addicted to Magic, all lost their source of power when Sunwell was destroyed in W3, all had to find new source, and they called themselves Blood to honor their dead brethren (according to W3 TFT campaign).
So again there is NO DIFFERENCE between High and Blood Elves. And as logic conclusion there is NO POINT or CHANCE to have them (High ones) as playable race. Eot imo.

Afaik all Blood Elves DID follow Kael'thas, just not literally. The ones who stayed behind in Silvermoon were still loyal to Kael until Liadrin jumped off and told everyone what Kael was up to. Or something like that. The ones who didn't change their name to Blood Elves were exiled instantly, keeping the name High Elf, along with their blue eyes and (I think) skin color. However, I didn't say they were a different race, in fact I said "they're still technically the same race" so why you're trying to tell me what I just said I do not know.

The high elves were exiled out of Silvermoon when Rommath returned to Quel'thalas to teach them Kael's Fel magic siphoning ways. Lor'themar exiled them because he knew that he couldn't lead a split nation. So basically, the current blue eyed elves did not want to follow Kael's new way of doing this so they left. Yet the Fel magic only changed the "blood" elves eyes from blue to green. There are really pale "blood" elves as well. Yet one reason why high elves might of pale before is that they were sick because of magic withdrawal. However with the sunwell being restored, High elves are only different in politics, tabard colors, and eye colors. In the Lor'themar story, it said that he regretted casting out the blue eyed elves but had to what was best for his people.
So in comparison, the high elves or "blue eyes" are viewed like the draenei look down upon the broken yet it is for political reasons instead of physical appearance
Cheers for correcting it, I always confuse a lot of stuff in lore. While it's true that Lor'themar regret exiling the blue eyes, and the High Elves didn't kill him on the spot when he came with the message of Kael'thas' death.. I think the High Elves would indeed turn to the Alliance rather than the Horde and Blood Elves if such a choice was ever necessary. We've seen in the pandaren that different factions of a race won't hesitate to kill each other in the name of their faction.
And just like I'd rather play High Elf than Blood Elf, I'd pick Broken over Draenei any day!

No problem. Lore is my favorite thing about WOW.
Personally I would rather have effective reskins for current races than a new race.
Now if they did reskins for your characters, I think that a high elf's best chance
would be if Blizzard had them rejoin the night elves and you could change your
night elf into a distant cousin high elf. There is already a high elf under a Darnassus
flag from Cata.
With the current lore, blood elves will not become neutral, they hate Jaina too
much. So the high elves moving in with the night elves are the best way for
high elves to get to be a alliance playable model.
While I do want the High Elves to be a playable race, I think having them as a skin-choice for Night Elves would be far more likely. Too many people would complain about Blizzard being lazy to make a new race look too much alike belves, and to find a starting area for them would be tough. I kinda like the idea I had earlier in the thread, if it was this one (you're in way too many threads I'm in this morning!), but no one replied to it :c If they actually add skin choices (helf, dark iron, mag'har etc) when they update race models.. I'd be far too overjoyed to even care about High Elves not being their own race.

I remember that thread and I agree with you. I would love reskins to incorporate existing off-shoot reskins for current races.
I think new skins and new player models would spark new life for old players and giving a high elf (blood elf reskin) to night elves
would be the best thing if they wanted to give players high elves.
It wouldn't even be a stretch lorewise. Next patch could have a combined Silver Covenant and Night elf faction
to gain reputation. OR Vereesa can ask for help from the night elves after Jaina goes full evil (which I hope is coming).
Vereesa Windrunner has been shown to be hot headed and Tyrande has been shown to be hot headed.
So distant elf cousins can unite.
Vereesa officially joining the Alliance with her undead sister in the Horde. Make it happen!
