Original equipment manufacturer. I.e. you buy a Dell, or an Alienware (yes, I know for the anally-retentive that it's the same thing now...), or a HP... Or even a branded company like the ones above.
Basically whenever you're buying a discrete *thing* already built, pre-loaded with software, boxed up and sent to you.
...As opposed to, well... Basically building your own PC from scratch.

they build good but part selection seems questionable?

Waste of ALOT of money. Can you build yourself?
8700K (5GHz) - Z370 M5 - Mugen 5 - 16GB Tridentz 3200MHz - GTX 1070Ti Strix - NZXT S340E - Dell 24' 1440p (165Hz)
ive never built a pc myself. is it really that much more if i built it?

can save you quite a few 100's and likely better performance due to part selection.
check this thread else, http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...omp-please-%29.
likely will answer some questions on your mind aswell.

Better graphics card, better all around parts. You save 500 bucks.

I wouldn't buy one. I just looked and the exact rig i built for myself. They want over double what i paid to build my own. $2906 compared to $1312. I know why someone would prefer not to build their own, but buying prebuilt is something I will never do again. Too high of a mark up.
