It can do, Soul Reaper is a metric ton of damage for both Frost and Unholy.

Hi ! The only thing I see is that you should do more AOE while your up in the stands. BloodBoil should be doing 20-30% of total damage. Something that might help is changing your Runic corruption talent to Bloodtap on that fight. Stack it to 10 before you go up. That way, you gain 2 extra BB's while up there. GL

Question: While I know the fight isn't ideal (a wipe), I seem to be consistently below my simmed damage at all stages of the fight. I sim for just shy of 28k DPS, but am just not able to hit it and i'm not entirely sure why. On Ko'Ragh earlier in the week I ranked in the 97th percentile for my Ilevel, but havent been remotely close to that on any other fights so it seems like i was lucky with procs or something. I'd just like to be consistently within at least 1k DPS of my optimal simulation. Any help is appreciated.

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): My AOE damage is... reasonable, but feel it could be higher, my single target is absolute rock bottom, especially on Imperator or movement based fights. Essentially my DPS isn't where I want it to be, especially for my ilvl. Lots of logs have been taken in heroic/ mythic so there's a lot to look through if anyone can help and give me some pointers as to where i'm going wrong.

your dps is about right because the sim shows dps for 99+ % uptime on the boss, but thats not possible on butcher you lose lot of melee hits and there a little dps when he knocks you back runs around, my advice try to increase your uptime on the boss by chasing him while he runs to range group

Question: It seems like a common problem is maximizing Soul Reaper. How do you assure you NEVER miss a soul reaper? I attempt to focus on using my unholy runes on soul reaper, while using my blood/frost/unholy on Fes/SS+Defile. But I still miss them constantly. I missed 6 of the 13 available Soul Reapers in this run. that's about half that's about 800k lost damage. PL is annoying, and I understand its best, but I know I miss it a lot, or use it at bad times, or sometimes I have two diseases on the add, I use it and it will not go off. I can only assume I have to have two runes down for it to work, and at those times I do not. So many things to keep track of... I feel like unholy is so complex, way more complex than It was in MoP or Cata. I feel like I could improve with keybinds, I cannot find a way to use them without it tanking my dps completely. I mean completely horrid dps. This all disturbs me greatly, I do an LFR and I top the charts as blood by 10-15%... I get into a Mythic Raid, and I cant even get above 12th ... This is getting me benched. I know I am better than this. Is Unholy just too hard to play these days?

Don't have a log sorry, but my single target dps hovers around 17-19k. Feels way to low for my ilvl and what other people say their dps is, even if my stats are frankly screwed 3 ways to Sunday. Didn't really have any heroic warforged, so I thought going from 630 to 640+ on the str gain alone is usually a big upgrade, but now I'm not so sure. I think I'm going to craft 3 pieces of plate, although I'm not sure which pieces yet, but is there anything else I can do besides tighten up soul reaper/defile/plague? Looking at other help questions it seems those crop up the most.

Not an expert as I just started playing DK but your 3.9% multistrike value seems very low. You should also use Obliterate whenever it's possible and as soon as possible (use Blood Tap if Killing Machine proccs and you have the charges to get Obliterate up) and not just use it on Killing Machine proccs.

I managed to do 24k DPS on Butcher with the same Itemlevel but I have 20% multi and only 24% mastery unbuffed.

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): My DPS isn't comparable to other DKs I often raid with. Of course they DO have better gear, but is it normal that it is such a huge difference? Or should I switch back to Unholy? I often feel like that I'm often on cooldown, having 1-2 seconds to wait until my runes are refreshed. It doesn't feel fluent at all. I'm not sure if I'm even using the right rotation. My Sim tells me about 25k DPS, but I'm below 20k!

For your information: I didn't have my current belt & weapon during this log, but my DPS are still not competitive enough with other DKs being on top of the damage meters ._.

Have you compared your sim'd spell counts/casts/damage/etc. with your logs?

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): I've been doing a quite a bit of self research into my issue and I've come to various conclusions, but I'm also looking for additional opinions. Currently, I'm doing subpar DPS on Twins in regards to my item level. Fellow UH DK's at my current ilvl are doing upwards of 31k+, and the sims indicate that I should be around there as well. As you can see from the logs, I'm doing significantly less dps. I've gathered from my logs, my defile placement usage was terrible for that encounter, as it's total damage was significantly less than the parses I compared to.

Additionally, I only had 91% up-time on Blood Plague, which should always be 98+. My total Blood Boil casts seem ok for the parses I compared to, although some parses had upwards of 100+ Blood Boil casts, not sure how that number was reached. However, would all that equate to outputting 5k DPS less than what the sims and my fellow DK's are outputting? I'm following the AoE rotation pretty well imo, but at this point aside from the issues I caught myself above I'm not sure what else would result in these encounters.

Simming myself against a Two Target Raid Encounter with light movement with a player skill of avg has the parse for myself at 31.4k. I personally thought I was at the average skill player threshold, but I guess not lol?

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): I am getting stuck in my DPS. Sometimes when I am raiding or even running heroic dungeons, my DPS will vary drastically when I am sticking to the same rotations I use in whichever fight I am in. I can go from doing 30k in a pull, going back the next day and getting 15k on the same exact one. I have compared my logs to other logs, and I can only see slight differences and working on improving them isn't helping when my damage is varying. If anyone has any advice, I will greatly appreciate it.

Firstly, looking at your armory you're missing a ring enchant.

I was looking at warcraftlogs statistics and the average dps of people with 663-677ilvl was 29k so while it's entirely possible to be pulling 35k+ if you're very good, it doesn't mean that's what your dps will/should be. Also you said simcraft results said you should be doing 31.4k dps but keep in mind simcraft isn't taking into account that you won't have 100% uptime on the boss, for example when one of them charges away or when one gets moved out for bladestorm or when you have to run out of melee range to avoid fire etc. So if you got to stand there and purely dps I'm sure 31.4k would become a lot more realistic.

As you said your Blood Plague uptime should be at 98% ish, Frost Fever uptime isn't too bad, could also go up a tiny bit. Soul Reaper usage was good, could maybe get a couple more off depending how fast the bosses go from 45%-0%.

Honestly, I think you could get a fair few more Blood Boils off. You cast it 71 times, it hit 130 times and thats over a 6min 26 second fight, compared to my 79 blood boils which hit 156 times in a 4min 55second fight (I was 662 at the time, here's the link if you want). Also the fact that you cast Blood Boil 71 times but only hit 130 times means that there were 12 Blood Boils that only hit 1 target. Make sure that you're in range of both when you Blood Boil.

Try to avoid using festering strike unless one of the bosses is out of range of Blood Boil.

Your Scabbard of Kyanos usage and Gargoyle usage isn't great. Your second use of scabbard is at 2:36 when you really want to be using it on CD. By using it on CD it also means it'll lineup with your 2nd Gargoyle. You should really be getting 5 Scabbard uses in that fight (you got 4 uses) and you should get a 3rd gargoyle assuming that you use 1 on pull, the 2nd at 3mins with your 3rd use of Scabbard and then a 3rd Gargoyle at 6mins. (I hope that makes sense xD)

You also didn't pre-pot or use a 2nd pot during the fight, this will make a significant difference and is definitely worth doing. I can't check through logs but make sure you're using 100 stat food and a flask, ideally the 250 stat one.

I had a look at your armory and noticed you're gemming mastery and you don't have any enchants. To start with I would recommend changing your gems to Multistrike and getting Multistrike enchants to your neck, cloak and both rings. If you don't want to spend heaps of gold just buy the cheap gems/enchants until you get better gear.

Secondly I noticed that you've taken Plaguebearer over Plague Leech. Plague Leech is definitely the talent to go with. I use it as a mini empowered rune weapon, so when I run out of runes I used PL, get 2 runes back and reapply diseases instantly with outbreak or plague strike.

Moving onto logs, I looked at your Heroic Butcher kill since that's the easiest fight to compare single target dps on. I noticed you used your potion 1 second into the fight which meant you couldn't use a 2nd one later on when your raid group used heroism. So make sure you use your first potion BEFORE you enter combat and use a 2nd one during the fight, ideally with personal cooldowns and/or heroism. You should be aiming to use a potion with 1-2 seconds left on your pull timer depending on how reliable it is in your raid group (eg will people pull early etc).

Army of the Dead isn't showing up correctly in logs so I'm not 100% sure when you use it but it looks like you're using it on pull? Using Army on pull basically wastes 4 seconds where you could be DPSing. What I do is Army at 7 seconds on pull timer so that all of your runes have regenerated by the time you pull the boss and it takes them about that long to climb out of the ground that you don't actually lose much/any dps by using it that early.

I also noticed that you used Plague Strike 3 times in the first 24 seconds. Doing this is wasting your Unholy runes. You should be spending your Unholy runes on defile or Scourge Strike unless you have to reapply diseases. It doesn't look like you use Outbreak at all during the fight either which will let you cast more Scourge Strikes over the course of the fight if you use Outbreak to reapply diseases rather than Plague Strike every time.

Your Dark Transformation usage seems fine, so does your Gargoyle usage, good job using it during heroism, ideally you'd want to use your second pot there as well. You can probably get a couple more soul reapers off but still decent uptime on it.

Looking at Twin Ogron it looks like there's the same general issues, bad timing on Army, only 1 potion, no Plague Leech etc. However I also noticed that while you were casting Blood Boil it wasn't always hitting both bosses. On cleave fights like this make sure that you're in range of both bosses when cleaving. in 6mins and 24 seconds you used Blood Boil 47 times with 82 hits compared to my 4min 55 second kill this week where I got 79 Blood Boils off and 156 hits. So make sure you're using Blood and Death runes on Blood Boil, it's not worth using festering strike at all during that fight except for maybe the opener once.

Also as a general note for a fight like twin ogron, open with Outbreak > FS > BB > SS > Defile > Plague Leach > BB to victory, if your frost runes become unsynced then use icy touch to turn those frost runes back into death runes so that you can get more blood boils.

Hello. There will be a introduction before my questions, I apologize upfront.

I am the raid leader of my guild, and we have issues with our DK dps. He is a decent enough player, but is pulling to low numbers. I play a DK as a alt myself, and have trid to help him out, but it doesn't seemt to fix himself. He is one of the worst geared in our group, but comparing him to similar geared on Warcraftlogs, he still doesnt do that well (I use the 648-662 ilvl thing, to measure him with.)

This might seem slightly elitist, but we are a 2days / week guild. To be able to get anywere, we need some decent performance of our members, both in terms of DPS and execution - and this time around, DPS seems to be more important than ever.
This is one of several posts I do for my raid, to raise the bar.

I feel like hes dps on ST is lacking, but especially on cleave/aoe fights I feel like he should be dropping the bomb. He got some decent upgrades compared to the logs posted, but he is still lacking a good weapon and trinkets.

He played frost before, but went UH as it is better for the MAJORITY of the fights. Both works, but we lack good aoe/cleave, so UH is great for this.
He has 2x 670 weapons for DW, but I feel like that is an inferio choice comparing to UH. He has a Mythic cloak, so don't mind the bonus armor one he got on the armory.

To the questions!
His SR uptime seems to be waay to low. How impactful is that to his dps?
How big uptime on Dark Transformation should you have?
On fights like Twins - can it be true that he has 0 Icy touches. Shoulden't you convert them azap on pull?
Is weapons worth alot of dps? Next weapon is for our fury war (second wep) or him. And what about trinkets?

If anyone finds stuff in the logs I have missed please say so. I really want to have this guy on my raid team, even if I have to work some to get him to higher dps lvl.
