Technically, it makes sense. It would actually be lore-breaking if she didn't become an alicorn.

Her brother married Princess Cadence. That makes her brother a prince, and herself a princess. And all princesses are alicorns.

Twilight is already a princess, but to add more to that, she is also the element of magic, she is in insanely good synergy with her own cutie mark, ideas, philosophy and lifestyle, whilst still maintaining the most important part: She has friends. Many of them, all around Equestria.

Is it really that strange she ascends? I think this whole series is about Twilight becoming an Alicorn.

when I was 14
I was biking down a road on a mountain
I was going really really fast
Someone came up behind me and overtook me really close, and that surprised me so i braked
But, it was just at a corner, so I nearly went off the edge
Also, I only applied the front brakes so when I got RIGHT to the edge the back lifted up and nearly through me off the side
It was crazy scary
I don't know why there was no railing on the road, it would have helped.
